College
The term "college" as understood in contemporary contexts—referring to an institution of higher education—does not have a direct equivalent in the Bible. However, the concept of education and communal learning is present throughout Scripture. In ancient Israel, the emphasis was on the transmission of knowledge, particularly about the Law and the ways of God, through families and community gatherings. For instance, Deuteronomy 6:6-7 instructs parents to teach their children diligently, indicating a form of education rooted in spiritual and moral principles. In the New Testament, the Apostle Paul, who was educated under Gamaliel, a respected teacher of the law (Acts 22:3), exemplifies the importance of learning and scholarship among early Christians. The term "school" is used in Acts 19:9 to refer to a place of teaching, indicating that communal learning was valued among believers. While the Bible does not mention "college" explicitly, the principles of education, mentorship, and the pursuit of wisdom are deeply woven into its teachings, emphasizing the importance of understanding God's word and applying it in life.
