Behold the Lamb

Brett and I were debating on who would go first, and I gotta say I'm glad he went first. I want to read a couple verses with you tonight, first being in the Gospel of John. I hope to tie this into my testimony tonight.

The Lord has put a verse on my heart, and he has continued to press on it all day. And so two things are going to happen if I don't share it. The first one's going to be that I'll have to answer for it in eternity, and so I have to tell you.

The second one is I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight if I didn't. And so in the Gospel of John, I want to read one verse in chapter number one. And with the Lord's help, I'll tie this into my testimony, and I'll leave enough time for another brother.

The Gospel of John in chapter number one, and we're going to read verse number 29. Verse 29 of chapter number one says, The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, and here's the part you need to listen to, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world. Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

This is why I'm glad that Rhett went first. We're also going to read first Timothy chapter one in verse number 15, because I did get saved through that verse. First Timothy chapter one in verse number 15.

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners of whom I am chief. I've really these words in John have been speaking to me today. And it's saying, Behold the Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world.

And I'm thinking about these words, and what the Lord is saying. And he's saying something to you tonight if you're not saved. And he's saying, Behold.

And what does that word mean? It means stop what you're doing. If you're not saved, you need to stop. You're headed to hell.

You're headed to a lost eternity, and you need to stop. Behold. Behold.

He says, Behold. Not just, not just that you stop. He says, Stop and look.

Look at what? He doesn't point you to something else. John the Baptist, he's not pointing to anyone else. He says, Look at the Lamb of God.

Why? Why the Lamb of God? Because he takes away the sin of the world. The Lamb of God, which takes away the sin of the world. Behold.

Stop what you're doing. You're headed to hell. You're headed to eternal punishment because of your sin.

And you need to stop. Because if you keep going, that's where you'll end up. And you need to stop.

Behold. Now he, now he points you to the Lamb of God. He says, This is, this is Jesus Christ.

This is the Lamb of God. The one that was sent by God. The one that was from the Father, from heaven.

It's not just any lamb. It's the Lamb of God. It's the Son of God.

Why? Because he takes away the sin of the world. He takes away the sin of the world. And the meeting, the gospel meeting begins in just a few short moments.

The message will be Jesus Christ. It won't be anything else. There won't be anything that you're asked to do.

Or a prayer to be made. It's going to point you to Christ. And everything to do with him.

It's the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. When we get to these words in 1st Timothy chapter 1 and 15. These are the words of Paul.

And Paul, this happened to him. He's walking on the road to Damascus. And the Lord says, Stop.

I need to talk to you. Why, why are you doing what you're doing? Why are you persecuting me, Paul? He stops him. He says, I need to talk to you.

And, and so Paul is stopped in his tracks. At the time his name is Saul. So you would maybe read those words in Acts.

Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And Saul has to stop. And he has to make a decision. And so I assume that the words that we read in 1st Timothy, something like that came to Paul's mind.

And I say that because no, no person gets saved without the realization that I'm a sinner. There is no salvation without the conviction of sin. When you understand it's my sin.

And that's the problem. And it's what's taking me to hell. That's when a person gets saved.

If you don't think you have sin or you don't think your sin is that bad, you'll never get saved. And so Paul says, I'm a sinner. I'm a sinner and I'm the worst of them.

But the good news is Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. You know, before I got saved, the Lord stopped me. And this is how I hope to tie it into my testimony and leave time for another brother.

The Lord stopped me. You know, he still does it. Even after I've been saved, there's every, every once in a while, he just, he stops me and he gets my attention.

And he says, I have something to say to you. And it comes from his word. And he says, you need to stop.

You can't keep going the direction you're going. You know, this message is for maybe someone who needs restored or brought back and you're heading in the wrong direction. And he says, behold, look at the lamb of God.

Why? If you're already saved, he points you to Christ and he reminds you of what he did for you. Behold the lamb of God. It's for those of us that are saved too.

But if you're not saved, he's stopping you. And there was a time when I was only eight years old and I was riding a horse and I got bucked off the horse and, and stepped on. And I spent 10 days in Iowa City in the hospital.

And I'm laying on what I didn't even know was my deathbed. Close to death. The closest to death I've probably ever been.

And I hope to never be that close again. And my, I had had a false profession where I told people that I was saved because I thought that I, I was. And I remember my grandma standing by my bed and she said these words and they shook me to my core.

At least he's saved. At least he's saved. Because at least if he died, he'd be in heaven and she was wrong.

And the fear of God came over me. And the Lord stopped me. You can't keep going the way you're going.

Because if you die, you'll be in hell. And he stopped me in my tracks. Just like he stopped Paul.

And he's speaking to unsaved ones tonight. And he's saying, behold, look at Christ. Because he saves.

Look at Christ. Because the reason he came, the reason he died, was to pay for sin. Did you know that tonight? The reason he went to the cross, the reason he took that punishment, the reason he was willing to go, was to pay for your sin and to pay for mine.

And tonight the Lord is saying, behold. He's speaking from his word. Behold the Lamb of God.

He takes away the sin of the world.
