Sermon Summary
In this sermon, the preacher reflects on the concept of being "less than nothing" in the eyes of God. He emphasizes that humans are temporary beings who cannot take anything with them when they leave this world. The preacher also highlights the insignificance of worldly possessions and the fleeting nature of life. He warns that sin can have far-reaching consequences and that as Christians, we are constantly being observed by both heavenly beings and earthly individuals.
Sermon Transcription
Just before I get into the message, I just want to share a little happening years ago in Ontario. A men's meeting, prayer meeting, Saturday morning, no meeting Saturday night, not more than a dozen of us there praying. And one of the men shared a need. He had a neighbor. He said, I love him, but he's a hard, crusty person. I've tried to share with him, and I don't get anywhere. Would you pray for him? So he told us this guy's name. So we started to pray. And suddenly somebody rushed into the room and said, what's going on here? What's going on here? What's going on? And it was this guy's neighbor, the guy he told us about, who we were praying for, and he told us what happened. He was sitting in his house. He said, I was suddenly hit with just a feeling that I had to get to the church. Something great was happening there. We led him to Christ. We sure set the prayer meeting on fire. We sang, How Great Thou Art in Jesus. Paul said, Though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more. It's not Christ in the flesh, but the Son of God fills the heavens and the earth. When Moses asked God to give him some name he could share with the Israelites, God said, My name is I Am. Not much of a name, or is it? Not I will be, not I was, but I am. And of course, God is everything. It's written of Christ. Christ is all, and in all. Colossians 3. How great is God. Psalm 33, 6 says, By the word of the Lord, and all the host of them, by the breath of God. That's how it happened. Then again in the same chapter, verse 9, he spoke. And it was done. He commanded, this goes fast. That's how it was done. They were always trying to find where the word came from. That's a big problem. Fairly recently, I don't know the Latin name for this, but they call them disks. They're maybe five inches in diameter. They found them certainly. Things can only be found, they do. These can only be found where the host rock cooled in three minutes. So they've been telling us the earth came from the sun. And obviously it could not have, or could not have these things in it. It had to cool in three minutes. Which means, of course, it never was hot. God made it the way it is. So we're pulled back in Isaiah 45. In Isaiah 45, it says that God is still stretching out the heavens like a curtain, as a tent to dwell in. Which means the universe now is not big enough for God. So he's still stretching it out. And of course the scientists tell us that. Things are expanding. It's expanding. Apparently some areas beyond the speed of light. He's spoke, but he's still stretching them out. And this is why we read in 1 Kings chapter 8, that the heavens, and the heaven of heavens, cannot contain God. The heaven of heavens must be a reference to the universe. It is not big enough to contain God. And that's exactly the truth, I believe. You get some other ideas. In Isaiah 42, it speaks about God having the dust of the earth in a tyrus. I understand the word tyrus means three. So God held all the dust of this planet in three fingers. This helps me to understand what he did. He measured the waters in the hollow of his hand. If God wanted to have a bath, you'd have to put all the oceans in the world, and all of it. He held the waters in the hollow of his hand. So we need to have an expanded, that is, a biblical understanding of the greatness of the God who saved us. Who died for us on the cross. He says he sits on the circle of the earth in Isaiah 42. The heaven is his throne, the earth is his footstool. So he asks this question, what kind of house can you build me? We could build a house reaching around the world. That was Isaiah 66.1, by the way. And when you think of what's happening in North America, fires, floods, winds. Nahum 1.3 says, the Lord has his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. So we were saying, they're all agreeing, it's mother nature. No, it's not. It's Father God. God is trying to awaken us up. I don't know how far this will go. I do know this. In Revelation 11 it says, just before the end of the age, just before the judgment. And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come. It's the same word for anger and wrath there in the Greek. So here we have an angry world and an angry God on a collision course. I can understand why God is angry. What we've done with his word and our doing to his people. I can understand why he's angry. Why is one angry? I may be wrong here, I'm often wrong. But maybe it will be because of the way God is trying to reach us. He'd rather reach us with love. He's done all he can in that regard. So now he has to resort to other ways. A rat in our cage. Making us look up and drop our gold coins in the dust. God isn't on full stand in case he is. You know, let's take a little ride on a rocket. We're going to get on a rocket and we're going to travel at the speed of light. So we pass the moon in two seconds. We pass the sun in eight minutes. We leave the local solar system. But at the speed of light, we don't reach the nearest sun for three years. But that's just the way it is. You know, it's incredible. It's hard for the little minds we have to really grasp. It helps. We need to see God as he really is. It will help us to never doubt him. It goes on to say in Isaiah 40 that he weighed the mountains and the hills and the valleys. Can you feature that? God putting mountains in a scale and weighing them? There's an old principle called isostasy. I'm not sure if it still stands in science. You have to weigh a certain amount, you see. So, Job 36.7 says he has. How come the church for a hundred... You know, the world was... And when somebody got the truth, Job was the oldest. How come they didn't get it? And it says in the promise, how come they didn't know that? Then he sits on the serpent and we quote. No, it isn't. I know. But when it talks about scientific things, it's always right. So, we have to read and mind. Now, here's something. I want you to think carefully. Did it ever occur to you that God is so great, so infinite, he can listen to five million people praying at the same time? I mean, that's what's going on, isn't it? It could easily be five million people around the world praying at the same time. No problem for God. How does he handle that? He's an infinite God. His wisdom, his power, intellectually, is so great. That's no problem for God. Sometimes people say, well, I'm just one of a million helping God here. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and he says, That's one from there. He says his right hand spanned the universe. Measure. Now, he counted the stars. Is that a problem? Not for us, the few we can see. I think sometimes we can see 2,000, maybe another. But the billions and trillions, every star in the universe. How many stars could you name? We're not talking about it. It says in Psalm 113 that he has to humble himself to look at the things going on in the earth. I don't have any trouble with that. But it says he has to humble himself to look at the things going on in heaven. Humble himself. Isn't that great? When you see some of these things. Now, there's another thought. I don't suppose you would. But it's just something. Why is it? People, listen. When he died on the cross, he did not die. He died for you personally. He saw you with me personally. I believe that. So Paul could say, and gave himself for me. So he was not dying for a big mass of people. Millions of people when he died on the cross. He was dying for us. And only a God of this nature, kindness, silence, could do this. It says in Isaiah 45, 18, He formed it to be inhabited. He made it as it is to be inhabited. It did not come from me. We're traveling on this rocket. The local solar system is part of the Milky Way constellation. If you could just be above it and look at it. At the speed of light, it will take you 100,000 years. I mean, these are immense. And it trembles. You know, the greatest miracle in the Bible is in Joshua. When Joshua cried to God, Son, stand up still. Give me a dollar. And it says, The Lord harked to the voice of man, who had no fear. Any time, any place. Why does he say that? The earth is spinning at 1,000 miles an hour. Everything would fly off into space. Everything. Water, earth, people, birds, fish, everything. It was all up to you. And God said, have hope. Have hope. Everything in place. And I don't think he lost any sleep over it. Within also there is a record. You ask him for his name? He doesn't give you an answer. He says, And where do you live? What is your address? I live in eternity. That's my address. He dwells to revive. Thus saith God. I say it in English. I that speak in righteousness, mighty to save. That's not the whole story. He's mighty to revive. He dwells to revive. He's waiting to revive you and me. Now that's a little picture of the greatness of God. Now let's look at ourselves from the word of God. It says in Job 8, 9. We are but of yesterday and know nothing. That's not very much. Just but of yesterday and know nothing. Would you repeat that with me? Ready? We'll say I. I am but of yesterday and know nothing. You know the most highly educated man in the universe, in this world of course, only knows about 5% of the knowledge he really is. He's highly educated in some area, but he can't cover the whole field. He's not capable of doing that. So he's not all that smart. I saw a fellow one time, and he couldn't talk English very well, very poorly educated, but he was driving a Camperwood tractor. And I watched him. He was handling that thing like a, I mean he could just carve it. He had that thing with him. But a guy will fight for his A2. If a man thinks that he knows, God isn't trying to run us down. He's just trying to get us downsized and up to his side at the same time. And again we read Galatians 6, 3. If a man thinks himself to be something when he isn't. I was amazed in Warren, Pennsylvania, we maybe know a little more than somebody else. Meaning in the context, how long does a flower last? He said, the inhabitants, they're all of the world. They're hurtful. When I sin as a Christian, I'm destroying some good. Because others are watching me. We are on stage. We are made, as Paul said, a spectacle. The Greeks were there to stand front, as Christian believers were. And were being watched by fallen angels and good angels. They didn't like it. When David sinned and did it secretly, he got it. By this means you have given great occasion to the enemies of the Lord. Remember the Jewish law, if you stole a man's sheep, and you were caught. And four of his sons. That was a penalty. The penalty he paid. It says in Isaiah 40, 15. That all the nations of the world put together. We were carrying an empty pail. And somebody snuck up and shot one. That's how he had to look at this. All the nations. From Adam to the end of time. All of us put together. One drop. Fuck it. Get it? Same chapter, verse 17. All nations, he said, they're less than nothing. Back. Less than nothing. Problem. First two. What are they? It says we brought nothing into this. Nothing in. Nothing out. That's you. That's me. So four words. My foot in the ball pit. Right? Your foot. The serpent. So man in his best state. Psalm 39, 5. How often are you at your best state? Man in his best state. Emptiness. Wisdom. Confusion. You may have a lot. Eternal life. It's such an amazing thing. And you know. If you don't see Christ. As he is. And was. You don't get it. To say. Salvation doesn't mean so much. How could he. Humble himself. The way he did. It says. In Hebrews. That he endured the cross. Despite the shame. And he did that because of the joy. That was. As an individual. That's something possible. Only to God. In the same categories. Naming the stars. And counting the stars. The verse in Psalm 83 says. When I consider the heavens. The work of your fingers. The moon and the stars. As you have ordained. It was man. Your mindful hands. The work of your fingers. So. And finally. See ourselves. As we really are. When we defy God. When we disobey. He loves. As the Bible tells me. He loves us. To sing to him. How can that be anything but God. He's delighted with somebody. Praying. It's so hard. To bring God down. Shelley. You know. There's a home. But we only reach that shore. By faith's decree. One by one. God will give it for us. He wants us to have the best. Not the money. The spiritual things. Christ said. All manner of sin. One of the. I think in Mark. It said. Blasphemies. We're worthless. And I have on the frame. And you know. Sometimes. I don't need the best. Mainly because. If we don't really see him. He is. And we must. Revival. That's when people see God as he is. One of the men from my church. He was. Finally he told me. I was familiar with the woman. Not my wife. I'm going to make things right with my wife. I cheated. I had an accident. I don't care if I go to jail. I can't stand. This power of the spirit of God in my heart. I've got to be right. I had a songwriter one time. Named. And a great songwriter. And a great man of prayer. God put us together. Here's how it happened. I was going with a small team to Winnipeg. From Saskatoon. And he said to myself. If Velma Claus. He told me afterwards what happened. He said. And then you'll go with that verse. Do you obey that verse? When I lost the altar. I couldn't find myself. And I knelt there. I didn't know what to do. And then the Lord said to me. If I am less than nothing. He resists the hunger. He sets himself in opposition to it. Christ said to himself. I am weak. And mountains. Mountains in the middle of the city. Right on the front. The verse. Come to me. I will give you. On the side of the stairs. Where you can buy a candle. And all that while. This thing was burning. Can I ask you a question? Do you get it? The greatness of God. Your smallness. People say. What about self-esteem? Two PhDs in the states. A year or two ago. They were asked to do a survey. Trying to find out. They gave me a report. But it was immediately squelched. They said. It's a self-esteem teaching. It's not self-esteem. It's Christ's. I had a woman. They phoned me. And asked if she would come. So I was comfortable with it. They said. When she walked in the door. I waited until she was. I know myself too well. Why don't we love him more? Why don't we trust him more? When I'm in the dark. If we're happy. Then thank you for showing us. How small we are. And you're not doing that. Just to put us down. And get us out of the way. Honored. Tonight with the truth. This is. Who we are. This is. This Lord. For giving you. So little truth. He fills us. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh.
