John Murray

John Murray (1898–1975). Born on October 14, 1898, in Badbea, Scotland, John Murray was a Presbyterian theologian and preacher renowned for his Reformed theology. Raised in a devout Free Presbyterian home, he served in World War I with the Black Watch, losing an eye at Arras in 1917. He studied at the University of Glasgow (MA, 1923) and Princeton Theological Seminary (ThB, ThM, 1927), later earning a ThM from New College, Edinburgh. Ordained in 1927, he briefly ministered in Scotland before joining Princeton’s faculty in 1929, then Westminster Theological Seminary in 1930, where he taught systematic theology until 1966. His preaching, marked by precision and reverence, was secondary to his scholarship, though he pastored congregations like First Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. Murray authored Redemption Accomplished and Applied and The Imputation of Adam’s Sin, shaping Reformed thought with clarity on justification and covenant theology. Married to Valerie Knowlton in 1937, he had no children and retired to Scotland, dying on May 8, 1975, in Dornoch. He said, “The fear of God is the soul of godliness.”

Sermon Summary
In this sermon, the preacher emphasizes the role of the Holy Spirit in the lives of believers. He references various Bible verses, such as 1 John 2:20 and 3:27, to support his point. The preacher highlights that the Holy Spirit abides in believers and works in their hearts to bring stability and conformity to the image of God. He also emphasizes that the measure of God's grace is not limited to our consciousness and that the Holy Spirit knows the depths of our iniquity. The preacher concludes by emphasizing the importance of knowledge of the truth, which is found in Jesus Christ, and how Jesus referred to the Holy Spirit as the Spirit of truth.

You were considerably into that thinking. I was, but I left it at that moment, so I couldn't think. It was distinguished. In Paul's teaching, no text is more relevant to the all-inclusiveness of the spirit. The main God here would be the spirit. But we don't need it to raise this. God the Father distinctly acts. Now secondly, it is the water. We found a bucket. And the fruit. Fruits of sex are the fruit of the spirit. Patience I took. Love. Our love to God. Ignite it. The flame of God. It is fire. Romans 5.5 That the fruit of love is born. So also hope. To the excel. And he himself. Again to take another. All again. Spiritual knowledge. And understand. Relevant. The knowledge. Who is it? The glory of God. We shall appreciate. In regard to God. Remarkably. In the same instance. What is the truth? That he would. Jesus himself is the truth. It's no wonder. The three quarters. Three quarters. Glory to God. That he was. Blind. That all these. Stained him. Three quarters. To the end. That they might be filled. To all the fullness. Chained to the goal. Fighting for their name. Formity. The image of him who is the truth. Sanctification is of God. Upon the efficacious grace of God. In the sphere of sanctification. As we are in any other aspect of the sphere of sanctification. As we are. By the force of some laws. In the nature of our youth. Growth. In holiness. In nature. The thing that I love. Holiness. Immuned after the unnamed wealth. And the power. That conditioning. That constant conditioning. By the presence of the Holy Spirit. Constant conditioning. By the presence. And the effective operation. In truth. Holy Spirit. And knows. We come. To the Holy Spirit. And he alone knows. Formity. Any agency on faith. Chemical consumption. It is of course true. That it's done. It's death. All those. All those. All the fullness. Necessary. We may even say. That he brought. The gift of. Improgressive. Handling of people. On his exploit. The mediation of Christ. In his all. His all capacity. In all the operations. In the ages. There is first of all. The virtue. The eminence. The one and only. Fullness. Grace. And virtue. When we were dealing. And virtue. When we were dealing.
