Trust in God's promises means relying confidently on His faithful assurances, which bring spiritual riches and present blessings to believers. Christian preaching often uses images of counting blessings or treasures to depict the value of God's unfailing word (Hebrews 10:23). This trust encourages steadfast hope and joy amid life's trials.

Count The Promises

Believers are rich by trusting God's promises, counting them as present blessings.

Two little girls were counting their pennies. One said, "I have five pennies." The other said, "I have ten." "No," said the first little girl, "You have just five cents, the same as I." "But," the second child quickly replied, "my father said when he comes home tonight he would give me five cents, and so I have ten cents." Trustfully, she counted what her father had promised. That's exactly how a Christian can be poor in the estimation of the world and at the same time be rich. He counts as his whatever his Heavenly Father has.

Psalms 23:4

Isabella Brown found sweet comfort in God's promise never to forsake her at death.

Fifteen minutes before she died, Isabella Brown was reading a list of Scripture promises, and in particular noticed this precious one: “I will never leave thee nor forsake thee.” She said faintly, “Oh, they are sweet.” The Psalmist could say: “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me.” Psalms 23:4.
