Psalms 5 Outline – Here is a proposed outline for Psalm Five: Psalms 5:1-3 - Direction of prayer – towards God Psalms 5:4-6 - Description of God’s character Psalms 5:7 Psalms 5:8 - Prayer for guidance Psalms 5:9-10 - Prayer against the wicked Psalms 5:11-12 Psalms 5:6 Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man. Psalms 5:6 — Word Study on “leasing” – Webster says the English word “leasing” means, “Or, “the act of lying, falsehood, a lie.” Psalms 5:9 For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue. Psalms 5:9 — Word Study on “faithfulness” – Webster gives the following synonyms for “faithfulness” as “Trusty; honest; upright; sincere; veracious; trustworthy.” Psalms 5:9 — “their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue” - Comments - Paul quotes from Psalms 5:9 when he concludes that both Jews and Gentiles are under sin (Romans 3:13). The rest of Rom 3:13 comes from Psalms 140:3. Romans 3:13, “Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips:” Psalms 140:3, “They have sharpened their tongues like a serpent; adders’ poison is under their lips. Selah.”
