Exodus 14
EdwardsExodus 14:20
Exo. 14:20. “And it was a cloud,” etc. In like manner as the gospel and the discoveries God makes of Himself in and by Christ are a mere cloud, and darkness and foolishness, “a stone of stumbling and rock of offence,” a “snare and gin,” “a savour of death unto death” unto some, while it is a most glorious light, the “power of God and the wisdom of God,” a “savour of life unto life” unto others.
Exodus 14:30
Exo. 14:30. “Dead upon the sea-shore.” The Egyptians were very nice and curious in embalming and preserving the bodies of their great men, [and erecting stately sepulchers and monuments for them;] but here the utmost contempt is poured upon all the grandees of Egypt. See how they lie heaps upon heaps, as the dung upon the face of the earth. The beasts and birds of prey are called to eat the flesh of captains and mighty men (Isaiah 66:24). Probably the Israelites stripped the slain and now got arms from them.
