John Gill Bible Commentary
But he that shall endure to the end,.... In the profession of faith in Christ, notwithstanding the violent persecutions of wicked men; and in the pure and incorrupt doctrines of the Gospel, whilst many are deceived by the false teachers that shall arise; and in holiness of life and conversation, amidst all the impurities of the age; and shall patiently bear all afflictions, to the end of his life, or to the end of sorrows, of which the above mentioned were the beginning: the same shall be saved; with a temporal salvation, when Jerusalem, and the unbelieving inhabitants of it shall be destroyed: for those that believed in Christ, many of them, through persecution, were obliged to remove from thence; and others, by a voice from heaven, were bid to go out of it, as they did; and removed to Pella, a village a little beyond Jordan (u), and so were preserved from the general calamity; and also with an everlasting salvation, which is the case of all that persevere to the end, as all true believers in Christ will. (u) Euseb. Eccl. Hist. l. 3. c. 5.

Encouragement in Tribulation
By Zac Poonen0Perseverance in FaithOvercoming TribulationJER 12:5MAT 24:13MRK 10:30JHN 16:33JHN 17:15ACT 14:22REV 1:9REV 2:10REV 14:4Zac Poonen emphasizes that Jesus never promised an escape from tribulation but rather the strength to overcome it, as stated in John 16:33. He highlights that God is more concerned with our character development through trials than our comfort, and that true discipleship often involves enduring hardships. Poonen references historical examples of early Christians who faced severe tribulations without divine rescue, illustrating that faithfulness in suffering leads to spiritual strength and eventual reward. He encourages believers to embrace their current trials as preparation for greater challenges ahead, reinforcing the message that perseverance is essential in the Christian faith.

Through the stories of Nicholas from Basil and Count Zinzendorf, he illustrates the transformative power of recognizing Christ's sacrifice and the commitment to live for Him. Stegen cautions that rejecting God's call can lead to dire consequences, as exemplified by the tragic fate of Marilyn Monroe. Ultimately, he calls for a deep personal realization of Christ's suffering for our sins and a commitment to serve Him wholeheartedly.
Ix. the Persecution
By Martyrs of the Catacombs0MAT 24:13MAT 24:44JHN 15:13JHN 16:33ROM 8:18ROM 8:351CO 15:58PHP 1:20HEB 10:36REV 12:11In the sermon 'Ye have need of patience, that after ye have done the will of God ye might receive the promise,' the preacher recounts the intense persecution faced by Christians, where even the humblest followers were not spared. Despite the dire circumstances, there were still non-Christian individuals who sympathized with and assisted the persecuted Christians. The narrative follows Marcellus, a bold Christian who risks his life to help his brethren, showcasing unwavering faith and readiness to face death for his beliefs. The sermon emphasizes the need for Christians to be prepared to meet death at any moment, drawing strength from the promises of God's Word and finding solace in the hope of eternal glory.
The Importance of Perseverance
By Zac Poonen0JER 12:5MAT 24:13MRK 10:30JHN 16:33JHN 17:15ACT 14:222CO 1:4REV 2:10REV 14:4Zac Poonen preaches on the importance of being prepared to partake in the tribulations that come with following Jesus, just as John experienced tribulation on the island of Patmos for his faithfulness to God's word. The doctrine of a pre-tribulation rapture can lull Christians into false comfort, but Jesus never promised an escape from tribulation, instead focusing on making us overcomers. God's desire is for us to be saved from evil, not necessarily from tribulation, as seen in the examples of early Christians who glorified God through their suffering.

He notes that Luke, while generally following Mark's order, includes moral teachings that are unique to his Gospel. Darby highlights the importance of understanding the genealogies and the context of Christ's ministry, particularly in relation to Israel's expectations and the establishment of the church. He concludes that the Gospels collectively reveal the nature of Christ's mission and the unfolding of God's plan for humanity.
Epistle 378
By George Fox0Spiritual GrowthFaithMAT 13:3MAT 24:13LUK 8:13ROM 1:17ROM 5:2HEB 10:38HEB 11:6HEB 12:2George Fox emphasizes the importance of being receptive to the word of God, as illustrated in the parable of the sower. Fox encourages believers to examine the condition of their hearts and the fruit they produce, urging them to cultivate good ground that yields a bountiful harvest. He highlights that true faith, which is authored and perfected by Christ, is essential for salvation and pleasing God. Ultimately, he calls for perseverance in faith to avoid drawing back into perdition.
