Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching anything that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
John Gill Bible Commentary
Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee,.... Which is as if he had said, observe what I am about to say, I do not agree to what thou sayest to fix the number, "until seven times only", but until seventy times seven; a certain number for an uncertain, see Gen 4:24. Christ's meaning is, that a man should be all the days, and every day of his life, forgiving those that sin against him, as often as they repent and acknowledge their fault; and that no time is to be set for the exercise of the grace of forgiveness; but as often as there are objects and occasions, though ever so many and frequent, it should be used; and which he illustrates by the following parable.

The third lie is that people feel they are not good enough for God to hear their prayers, but the speaker reminds listeners that we pray in the name of Jesus, not in our own righteousness. Yohannan addresses the alarming state of relationships within the Church, emphasizing the lack of tenderness in our hearts towards God and one another. He highlights that many personal conflicts and high attrition rates among Christian workers stem from an unwillingness to admit sin and take responsibility for our actions. Yohannan urges believers to cultivate a heart of humility and repentance, akin to the prodigal son, to foster unity and love within the body of Christ. He stresses that true oneness is only achievable when we acknowledge our failures and seek reconciliation, as demonstrated by Jesus' prayer for unity among His followers. Ultimately, a tender heart is essential for fulfilling God's promises and maintaining healthy relationships.

He warns against the distractions of busyness and the need for structure in prayer meetings, advocating for a balance that allows for both freedom and focus. Lord, Is My Heart Tender? Part Two
By A.B. Simpson0The Importance of a Tender HeartUnity in the Body of ChristGEN 3:12MAT 18:19LUK 23:43JHN 17:21JAS 5:16A.B. Simpson emphasizes the necessity of a tender heart in fostering unity among believers, recounting a situation where two co-workers were at odds despite one being technically right. He highlights that truth, when not delivered with love and grace, can lead to division and hinder God's work. Simpson points out that true oneness, as prayed for by Jesus, requires individuals to take responsibility for their own sins rather than blame others. He illustrates this with the example of the prodigal son and the thief on the cross, both of whom acknowledged their failures. Ultimately, maintaining a tender heart is essential for achieving the unity that Jesus desires among His followers.
On Intercession and Ministry
By Art Katz0IntercessionCorporate UnityMAT 18:19ACT 2:14Art Katz emphasizes the critical role of intercession and corporate unity in the effectiveness of public ministry. Katz highlights the example of Peter's sermon at Pentecost, illustrating how collective agreement and participation enhance the message's impact. He warns against the observer mentality prevalent in modern society, urging believers to recognize their shared responsibility in the proclamation of God's word. Ultimately, true intercession requires self-denial and a commitment to the collective spiritual life of the church.
If Two Agree
By Andrew Murray0United PrayerPower of AgreementMAT 18:19Andrew Murray emphasizes the significance of united prayer among believers, highlighting that while personal prayer is essential, the collective agreement in prayer brings about a powerful presence of Jesus and answers from the Father. He illustrates that just as family members come together to express their desires to their father, Christians should unite in prayer, recognizing their shared relationship with God as 'Our Father.' Murray points out that true united prayer requires agreement on specific requests, gathering in the name of Jesus, and the expectation of answers, which can lead to profound blessings for the church and its members. He encourages believers to embrace the privilege of united prayer, as it can unleash God's power and hasten the coming of His kingdom. The sermon concludes with a heartfelt prayer for unity and the effectiveness of prayer within the church.
