12On that day the Lord GOD of Hosts called for weeping and wailing, for shaven heads and the wearing of sackcloth. 13But look, there is joy and gladness, butchering of cattle and slaughtering of sheep, eating of meat and drinking of wine: “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!”Cross References

Isaiah 22:11 Summary
This verse is saying that even when we try to prepare for the future and protect ourselves, we often forget to trust in God and seek His guidance. The people of Jerusalem were trying to store up water in case of a siege, but they didn't think about God's power and provision (as seen in Exodus 17:6 and Numbers 20:11). We can learn from their mistake by remembering to look to God and trust in His plan, rather than just relying on our own strength and resources. By doing so, we can find true security and peace, as promised in Jeremiah 29:11 and Proverbs 3:5-6.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the ancient pool being referred to in Isaiah 22:11?
The ancient pool is likely the pool of Siloam, which was a major water source for the city of Jerusalem, as mentioned in 2 Kings 20:20 and 2 Chronicles 32:30.
What does it mean to look to the One who made it in Isaiah 22:11?
Looking to the One who made it means recognizing and acknowledging God as the Creator and sustainer of all things, as seen in Psalm 95:4 and Isaiah 40:28.
Why is it significant that the people did not consider Him who planned it long ago?
Not considering God's plan and purpose is a sign of spiritual blindness and disobedience, as warned in Deuteronomy 8:11-14 and Hosea 4:6.
How does this verse relate to the rest of the chapter?
This verse is part of a larger condemnation of Jerusalem's spiritual complacency and lack of trust in God, as seen in Isaiah 22:12-13 and echoed in Amos 6:1-7.
Reflection Questions
- What are some ways I try to prepare for challenges or dangers in my life, and do I seek God's guidance and protection in those efforts?
- How do I prioritize my trust in God's sovereignty and provision, especially in times of uncertainty or crisis?
- In what ways do I, like the people of Jerusalem, focus on my own strength and resources rather than looking to God as my ultimate source of help and deliverance?
- What are some areas of my life where I need to acknowledge and submit to God's plan and purpose, rather than trying to control or manipulate circumstances on my own?
