15At daybreak the angels hurried Lot along, saying, “Get up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, or you will be swept away in the punishment of the city.”
16But when Lot hesitated, the men grabbed his hand and the hands of his wife and his two daughters. And they led them safely out of the city, because of the LORD’s compassion for them. 17As soon as the men had brought them out, one of them said, “Run for your lives! Do not look back, and do not stop anywhere on the plain! Flee to the mountains, or you will be swept away!”Cross References

Genesis 19:15 Summary
[In Genesis 19:15, the angels told Lot to get up and take his wife and two daughters, because they would be swept away in the punishment of the city if they did not leave. This shows that God is a God of mercy and compassion, who wants to save people from His judgment, as seen in John 3:16. The angels' warning to Lot is a reminder that we all need to be mindful of God's judgment and seek refuge in Him, just like Lot and his family did. By trusting in God's mercy and compassion, we can find safety and salvation, just like they did.]
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did the angels have to hurry Lot along in Genesis 19:15?
The angels had to hurry Lot along because the Lord was about to destroy the city of Sodom, and Lot's family needed to escape the impending judgment, as seen in Genesis 19:13 where the angels stated they were sent to destroy the place.
What would have happened to Lot and his family if they did not leave Sodom?
If Lot and his family did not leave Sodom, they would have been swept away in the punishment of the city, as the angels warned in Genesis 19:15, and as is also seen in the example of the destruction in Genesis 18:20 and Genesis 19:24-25.
Why did the angels specifically tell Lot to take his wife and two daughters who were with him?
The angels specifically told Lot to take his wife and two daughters who were with him because they were the only members of his family who were with him and willing to leave, as his sons-in-law thought he was joking in Genesis 19:14, and the angels wanted to ensure their safety.
What does this verse reveal about God's character?
This verse reveals that God is a God of mercy and compassion, as seen in the angels' actions to save Lot and his family, and as stated in Psalm 103:8, which says that the Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in love.
