14Let our leaders represent the whole assembly. Then let everyone in our towns who has married a foreign woman come at an appointed time, together with the elders and judges of each town, until the fierce anger of our God in this matter is turned away from us.” 15(Only Jonathan son of Asahel and Jahzeiah son of Tikvah, supported by Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite, opposed this plan.)Cross References

Ezra 10:13 Summary
This verse shows that the Israelites knew they had sinned greatly by marrying foreign wives and wanted to make things right with God. However, they also recognized that it would take time to correct their mistake, and they couldn't just do it quickly or in a superficial way, as seen in the need for a process outlined in Ezra 10:14. It's like when we sin and need to apologize and make amends, it's not always easy or quick, but it's necessary for our relationship with God to be restored, just as it is described in 1 John 1:9. The Israelites' willingness to acknowledge and address their sin is a great example for us to follow, and it reminds us of the importance of patience and perseverance in our walk with God, as encouraged in Galatians 6:9.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the significance of the rainy season in Ezra 10:13?

Why did the Israelites say they had transgressed greatly in this matter?
The Israelites acknowledged their great transgression because they had disobeyed God's command not to intermarry with foreigners, as stated in Deuteronomy 7:3-4 and Leviticus 18:24-30, which led to the corruption of their faith and practices.
What does this verse reveal about the Israelites' attitude towards their sin?

How does this verse relate to the concept of repentance in the Bible?
This verse illustrates the concept of repentance, as the Israelites acknowledged their sin, took responsibility for it, and were willing to make amends, which is in line with the teachings of 2 Corinthians 7:10 and Acts 3:19, where repentance is seen as a crucial step towards forgiveness and restoration.
