1 Samuel 9:6 in Multiple Translations
“Look,” said the servant, “in this city there is a man of God who is highly respected; everything he says surely comes to pass. Let us go there now. Perhaps he will tell us which way to go.”
And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honourable man; all that he saith cometh surely to pass: now let us go thither; peradventure he can shew us our way that we should go.
And he said unto him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is a man that is held in honor; all that he saith cometh surely to pass: now let us go thither; peradventure he can tell us concerning our journey whereon we go.
But the servant said to him, See now, in this town there is a man of God, who is highly honoured, and everything he says comes true: let us go there now; it may be that he will give us directions about our journey.
But the servant replied, “Hold on! There's a man of God here in this town. He's very well thought of, and everything he says comes true. Let's go and see him. Maybe he can tell us which way we should take.”
And he said vnto him, Behold nowe, in this citie is a man of God, and he is an honorable man: all that he saith commeth to passe: let vs nowe goe thither, if so be that he can shewe vs what way we may goe.
And he saith to him, 'Lo, I pray thee, a man of God [is] in this city, and the man is honoured; all that he speaketh doth certainly come; now, we go there, it may be he doth declare to us our way on which we have gone.'
The servant said to him, “Behold now, there is a man of God in this city, and he is a man who is held in honor. All that he says surely happens. Now let’s go there. Perhaps he can tell us which way to go.”
And he said to him, Behold now, there is in this city a man of God, and he is an honorable man; all that he saith cometh surely to pass: now let us go thither; it may be he can show us our way that we should go.
And he said to him: Behold there is a man of God in this city, a famous man: all that he saith, cometh certainly to pass. Now therefore let us go thither, perhaps he may tell us of our way, for which we are come.
But the servant said, “I have another idea [IDM]. There is one of God’s prophets who lives in this town. People respect him very much, because everything he predicts comes true. Let’s go talk to him. Perhaps he can tell us where we can go to find the donkeys.”
But his working man said, “Wait a minute. What about that old man that tells God’s messages? He lives in this place. Everybody knows that he is God’s man. Whenever he says that something is going to happen, later it happens. We can ask him. He might tell us the place to look for the donkeys.”

Context — Saul Chosen as King
6“Look,” said the servant, “in this city there is a man of God who is highly respected; everything he says surely comes to pass. Let us go there now. Perhaps he will tell us which way to go.”
7“If we do go,” Saul replied, “what can we give the man? For the bread in our packs is gone, and there is no gift to take to the man of God. What do we have?” 8The servant answered him again. “Look,” he said, “I have here in my hand a quarter shekel of silver. I will give it to the man of God, and he will tell us our way.”Cross References

1 Samuel 9:6 Summary
This verse is about a servant who suggests going to a man of God, likely Samuel, for help in finding some lost donkeys. The servant believes that the man of God's words are reliable and that he can provide guidance, which is similar to how God speaks to us through His word, as seen in Psalm 119:105. The servant's suggestion encourages us to seek God's guidance in our own lives, trusting that He will provide direction and wisdom, just like He did for the people of Israel in Deuteronomy 31:8. By seeking God's guidance, we can trust that His word will come to pass and that He will provide what we need.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is the man of God mentioned in 1 Samuel 9:6?
The man of God is likely Samuel, a prophet and leader in Israel, who is introduced in 1 Samuel 3:20 as one whom the Lord was with, and everything he said came to pass, as seen in 1 Samuel 3:19-20.
Why did the servant suggest going to the man of God for help?
The servant suggested going to the man of God because he believed that the man's words were reliable and that he could provide guidance, as indicated by the fact that everything he said surely came to pass, similar to the way God spoke through prophets in Isaiah 55:11.
What does it mean that everything the man of God said surely came to pass?
This means that the man of God's words were trustworthy and accurate, and his predictions or statements about the future were fulfilled, much like the way God's word is described in Isaiah 40:8 as enduring forever.
How does this verse relate to seeking God's guidance in our own lives?
This verse encourages us to seek God's guidance through His word and through prayer, trusting that He will provide direction and wisdom, as promised in Proverbs 3:5-6 and Jeremiah 29:12-13.
