1 Samuel 16:18 Summary
This verse tells us about a young man named David, who was skilled at playing the harp and was also brave, strong, and handsome. But most importantly, it says that 'the LORD is with him', which means that God was guiding and blessing David's life. This is similar to what God promises to us in Jeremiah 29:11 and Romans 8:28, that He is always with us and wants to bless us. Just like David, we can trust in God's presence and favor in our lives, and use our gifts and talents to serve others.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the significance of David playing the harp?
David's ability to play the harp was a gift from God, and it was used to bring comfort and relief to King Saul when he was troubled by an evil spirit, as seen in 1 Samuel 16:14-15 and 1 Samuel 16:23.
Why is David described as a 'mighty man of valor'?
David's description as a 'mighty man of valor' highlights his bravery and strength, which would later be demonstrated in his defeat of Goliath, as recorded in 1 Samuel 17:1-58, and shows that God was with him, as stated in 1 Samuel 16:18.
What does it mean that 'the LORD is with him'?
The phrase 'the LORD is with him' indicates God's presence, blessing, and favor on David's life, which is a recurring theme throughout the Bible, such as in Genesis 28:15 and Joshua 1:5-6.
How did the servant know about David's abilities?
The servant likely knew about David's abilities through personal observation or reputation, as David was from Bethlehem and the servant may have had contact with him or his family, and it is also possible that the servant was aware of David's anointing by Samuel in 1 Samuel 16:1-13.
