Context — Two Victories over the Philistines
13Once again the Philistines raided the valley.
14So David again inquired of God, who answered him, “Do not march up after them, but circle around them and attack them in front of the balsam trees. 15As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move out to battle, because this will mean that God has gone out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”Cross References

1 Chronicles 14:13 Summary
This verse tells us that the Philistines, who were enemies of the Israelites, came back to attack them again, even after being defeated before. This shows us that our enemies, whether they are people or spiritual forces, will often keep coming back to attack us until we trust fully in God's power and protection, as seen in Psalm 23:4. We can learn from David's example to trust in God and wait for His timing, rather than rushing into battle on our own, and to remember that God is always with us, even in the toughest times, as seen in Joshua 1:9.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why did the Philistines continue to raid the valley despite their previous defeat?
The Philistines continued to raid the valley because they had not yet learned to fear God, as seen in 1 Chronicles 14:13, and their hearts were still hardened against Him, similar to Pharaoh's heart in Exodus 8:15.
What can we learn from the Philistines' repeated attacks?
We can learn that our enemies, whether physical or spiritual, will often continue to attack us until we fully surrender to God and trust in His power, as seen in 1 Chronicles 14:13 and Ephesians 6:12.
How does this verse relate to the rest of the chapter?
This verse is a continuation of the story of David's victories over the Philistines, and it sets the stage for David's next battle, where he will again trust in God for victory, as seen in 1 Chronicles 14:14-15.
What does this verse teach us about perseverance?
This verse teaches us that perseverance is necessary in our walk with God, as we will face repeated challenges and attacks, but with faith and trust in Him, we can overcome them, as seen in 1 Chronicles 14:13 and Romans 5:3-5.
