1 You showed favor [been favorable, were good] to Your land [the promised territory, the holy ground], O LORD [the Supreme Ruler]; You restored [brought back, turned to] Jacob [the people of Israel, the descendants of Jacob] from captivity [a state of exile, bondage]. word study 2 You [completely, forever] forgave [took away, pardoned] the iniquity [sin, wrongdoing] of Your people; You covered [removed from sight, hid] all their sin [transgressions, rebellion]. Selah word study 3 You withheld [gathered up, took back] all Your fury [wrath, burning anger]; You turned [turned away, turned back] from Your burning [fierce, severe] anger [wrath, indignation]. word study 4 Restore [turn back, bring back to you] us, O God [the one who saves/rescues us] of our salvation, and put away [cause to cease, stop being angry with us] Your displeasure [indignation, burning anger] toward us. word study 5 Will You [continue to, forever] be angry [vexed, frustrated] with us forever [through all generations, to the age]? Will You [prolong] draw out Your anger [wrath, indignation] to [against, upon] all generations [from one generation to another]? word study 6 Will You [not turn back, restore] not revive [quicken, give life to] us again, that Your people [Your nation, those who belong to You] may rejoice [find happiness, be glad] in You? word study 7 Show us Your [merciful] loving devotion [kindness, trustworthy love], O LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God], and grant us Your [eternal, spiritual] salvation [rescue from trouble]. word study 8 I will listen to what God [Yehovah] the LORD [the covenant-keeping God] will say; for He will surely speak [promise, proclaim] peace [shalom, wholeness and well-being] to His people [those who trust in Him] and His saints [the faithful, set apart ones]; He will not let them return to [repeat, go back to] folly [foolishness, sinful ways]. word study 9 Surely His salvation [rescue, deliverance] is near [at hand, close] to those who fear [revere, worship] Him, that His glory [honor, splendor] may dwell [reside, abide] in our land [country, nation]. word study 10 Loving devotion [merciful kindness, faithful love] and faithfulness [trustworthiness, truth] have joined together; righteousness [moral integrity, justice] and peace [harmony, wholeness] have kissed [embraced, come together in love]. word study 11 Faithfulness [kindness, loving actions] sprouts from the earth [the land, the material world], and righteousness [justice, moral integrity] looks down from heaven [the spiritual realm, God’s dwelling place]. word study 12 The LORD [Yehovah, the covenant God] will indeed provide [give, bestow] what is good [beneficial, righteous], and our land [earth, territory] will yield [produce, bring forth] its increase [harvest, abundance]. word study 13 Righteousness [moral integrity, justice] will go before Him [Yehovah] to prepare [make ready, set in order] the way [path, journey] for His steps [footprints, footsteps, as a guide]. word study
