Psalms 76
BSA1 God [the supreme Creator, known in Judah] is known [recognized, acknowledged] in Judah; His name [reputation, fame] is great [renowned, glorious] in Israel. word study 2 His tent [tabernacle, dwelling place] is in Salem [Jerusalem], His dwelling place [home, habitation] in Zion [on Zion Hill]. word study 3 There He shattered [broke, snapped] the flaming [fiery, blazing] arrows [of the bow], the shield [body-cover, protection] and sword [weapon, instrument of war] and weapons [instruments, tools] of war [battle, conflict]. Selah word study 4 You are resplendent [shining, glorious] with light [a flash of fire, divine radiance], more majestic [excellent, glorious] than mountains [hills, eternal mountains] filled with game [prey, wild animals]. word study 5 The valiant [stouthearted, mighty warriors] lie plundered [spoiled, made a spoil]; they sleep [have slept, are in a deep slumber] their last sleep [sleep of death]. No men of might [strong, powerful, courageous] could lift [found, raise] a hand [their hands]. word study 6 At Your [divine, sovereign] rebuke [command, voice of wrath], O God [Elohim, the supreme Creator] of Jacob, both horse [chariot, carriage] and rider [man, warrior] lie [are cast into a deep, dead] stunned [asleep, in a state of unconsciousness]. word study 7 You [the only one] alone are to be feared [terrifying, a cause of awe]. When You [the supreme God, Elohim] are angry [in wrath, once rebuked], who can stand [endure, keep their place] before You [in Your sight, when You are present]? word study 8 From heaven [the celestial realm, the throne of God] You [the personal, covenant God] pronounced judgment [a verdict, a sentence], and the earth [the land, the world] feared [was in awe, stood in reverence] and was still [silent, motionless, in quiet reverence] word study 9 when God [the Supreme Judge, Almighty] rose up to judge [declare judgment, execute verdict], to save [rescue, deliver] all the lowly [meek, oppressed, humble] of the earth [land, world]. Selah word study 10 Even the wrath [fierceness, intense anger] of man [humanity, mortal beings] shall praise [give glory, honor] You; with the survivors [remainder, those who remain] of wrath [anger, indignation] You will clothe [gird, surround] Yourself [Your being, Your person]. word study 11 Make [vow and pay, give a promise] and fulfill [complete, bring to pass] your vows [promises, solemn commitments] to the LORD [Yehovah] your God [Elohim, the supreme Ruler]; let all the neighboring lands [surrounding nations, people-groups] bring [offer, present] tribute [gifts, offerings] to Him who is to be feared [the Fearful One, awesome and revered]. word study 12 He breaks [cuts off, gathers] the spirits [the inner beings, the hearts] of princes [rulers, leaders]; He is feared [feared with awe, terrible] by the kings [monarchs, rulers] of the earth [the world, all nations]. word study
