Psalms 75
BSA1 We give thanks [praise and acknowledge] to You, O God [Elohim, the supreme Creator]; we give thanks [express gratitude], for Your Name [Your character and reputation] is near [close beside us, accessible]. The people [men, humanity] declare [tell and proclaim] Your wondrous [amazing and marvelous] works [acts and deeds]. word study 2 “When I choose [select, appoint, find the set time] a time, I will judge [uprightly, in righteousness, blamelessly] fairly. word study 3 When the earth [and all its inhabitants are dissolved, melted] and all its dwellers [inhabitants, creatures] quake [tremble, shake], it is I [I myself, I alone] who bear up [hold steady, establish] its pillars [foundations, supports]. Selah word study 4 I [as a prophetic voice] say to the proud [arrogant, boastful ones], ‘Do not boast [be not boastful, deal not foolishly],’ and to the wicked [sinners, foolish ones], ‘Do not lift up your horn. word study 5 Do not [let not be, do not allow] lift up your horn [a horn; a hill or peak] against heaven [the spiritual realm, God’s dwelling place] or speak [utter words, declare] with an outstretched [stiff, proud] neck [in arrogance, with haughtiness].’” word study 6 For exaltation [promotion, lifting up] comes neither from east [the rising sun] nor west [the setting sun], nor out of the desert [the wilderness, a desolate place], word study 7 but it is God [the supreme Judge, Elohim] who judges [decides, renders verdicts]; He brings down [puts down, humbles] one and exalts [lifts up, elevates] another. word study 8 For a cup [filled with God’s wrath, containing judgment] is in the hand of the LORD [Elohim, the supreme Ruler], full of foaming wine [red, bubbling with fury] mixed with spices [causing intoxication, leading to stumbling]. He pours from His cup [without mercy, in full measure], and all the wicked [unrighteous, sinful] of the earth drink it down to the dregs [every last drop, until completely consumed]. word study 9 But I will proclaim [declare, speak about] Him forever [to the age, always]; I will sing praise [praises, songs of worship] to the God [Yehovah, the Lord] of Jacob [the God whom Jacob worshiped]. word study 10 “All the horns of the wicked [those who oppose God, unrighteous] I [emphatically, as the supreme Judge] will cut off [destroy, break], but the horns of the righteous [those who do what is good, upright] will be exalted [lifted up, elevated].” word study
