BSA1 In my distress [trouble, vexation, or being hemmed in] I cried [called out, uttered a loud voice] to the LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God], and He answered [heard, responded, or gave an oracle to] me. word study 2 Deliver [rescue, save] my soul [the essence of my being, my living self], O LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], from lying [deceptive, false] lips [language, words] and a deceitful [treacherous, untrustworthy] tongue [the power of speech, a language]. word study 3 What [or how] will He do to you, and what [further punishment or consequence] will be added [or done more] to you, O [you who are characterized by] deceitful [false, treacherous, or slack] tongue [the instrument of speech, language, or expression]? word study 4 Sharp [piercing, pointed] arrows [of the mighty, like those used by archers] will come from the warrior [a strong or mighty man, a champion], with burning [hot, fiery] coals [glowing embers, like those from a broom tree] of the broom tree [a type of desert plant, also known as the Spanish broom]! word study 5 Woe [sorrow, lament] to me that I dwell [sojourn, live as a stranger] in Meshech [a land of darkness, a region of barbarism], that I live [reside, abide] among the tents [nomadic homes, temporary dwellings] of Kedar [a people of darkness, descendants of Ishmael]! word study 6 Too long [exceedingly, my soul hath long] have I dwelt [lived, resided] among those who [with him that, in the company of] hate [intensely dislike, are hostile towards] peace [shalom, completeness and wellness]. word study 7 I [am for harmony, seeking wholeness] am in favor of peace [shalom, completeness and wellness]; but when I speak [communicate, share my thoughts], they want [are bent towards, have a desire for] war [battle, conflict]. word study
