BSA

1 Then the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] said [to speak, to communicate] to Moses [the Israelite leader, born to Amram and Jochebed], word study 2 “Take Aaron [the first high priest] and his sons, their garments [priestly robes], the anointing oil [for consecration], the bull [young ox] of the sin offering [for atonement], the two [a pair] rams, and the basket of unleavened bread [without yeast], word study 3 and assemble [gather together, collect] the whole [all, everything] congregation [gathering of people, community] at the entrance [door, opening] to the Tent [tabernacle, sacred dwelling] of Meeting [appointed time, sacred season].” word study 4 So Moses [the Israelite leader, a servant of God] did as the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] had commanded [given orders, appointed] him, and the assembly [congregation, a gathering of people] gathered [came together, was assembled] at the entrance [doorway, threshold] to the Tent [tabernacle, a portable place of worship] of Meeting [a sacred appointed time, a place of divine encounter]. word study 5 And Moses [the Israelite leader] said to them [the congregation, the assembly], “This [specific thing, this matter] is what the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] has commanded [given orders, appointed] to be done [accomplished, fulfilled].” word study 6 Then Moses [the Israelite leader] presented [brought near, offered] Aaron [the first high priest] and his sons [descendants, heirs] and washed [bathe, cleanse] them with water [the liquid, a source of refreshment]. word study 7 He put the tunic [long, shirt-like garment] on Aaron, tied the sash [girdle, belt] around him, clothed him with the robe [outer garment], and put the ephod [special vest, priestly garment] on him. He tied the woven band [decorative belt, artwork] of the ephod around him and fastened it to him [bound it securely]. word study 8 Then he put the breastpiece [sacred pouch, priest’s bag] on him and placed the Urim [stones for determining God’s decisions] and Thummim [objects revealing God’s will, complete truth] in the breastpiece [to hold the Urim and Thummim]. word study 9 Moses also put the turban [mitre, head-dress] on Aaron’s head and set the gold [valuable, precious] plate, the holy [set-apart, consecrated] diadem [crown], on the front [forehead, face] of the turban, as the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] had commanded [given orders, instructed] him. word study 10 Next, Moses [the Israelite leader] took the anointing [consecrated] oil and anointed [rubbed oil on, set apart] the tabernacle [a special tent, portable place of worship] and everything [all the furnishings, utensils] in it; and so he consecrated [set apart as holy, dedicated] them. word study 11 He sprinkled [poured or cast] some of the oil on the altar [place of sacrifice] seven times [on seven occasions, repeatedly], anointing [applying oil to set apart, to consecrate] the altar and all its utensils [articles or vessels], and the basin [laver, a container for washing] with its stand [base or pedestal], to consecrate [set apart as holy, to sanctify] them. word study 12 He also poured [liberally, abundantly] some of the anointing [consecrated, sacred] oil [olive oil, ointment] on Aaron’s [the first high priest, brother of Moses] head [the topmost part of the body] and anointed [to rub oil on, set apart] him to consecrate [set apart as holy] him [to sanctify, dedicate to God]. word study 13 Then Moses [the Israelite leader] presented Aaron’s sons, put [clothed them with] tunics [long, shirt-like garments] on them, wrapped [girded, tied] sashes [belts, girdles] around them, and tied [bound, fastened] headbands [turbans, headgear] on them, just as [in accordance with] the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] had commanded [given orders to, appointed] him. word study 14 Moses then brought [drew near, approached] the bull [young ox, bullock] near for the sin [guilt, punishment] offering, and Aaron [the first high priest] and his sons [descendants, family] laid [placed, rested] their hands [an open hand; strength, a side or share] on its head [the topmost part of the body]. word study 15 Moses slaughtered [killed, put to death] the bull, took some of the blood [the liquid that flows through the body, essential for life], and applied it with his finger [using his finger to put, to set] to all four horns [projections, corners] of the altar [a place of sacrifice, where offerings are made to God], purifying [cleansing, making holy] the altar. He poured out [emptied, drained] the rest of the blood at the base [foundation, starting point] of the altar and consecrated [set apart, made holy] it so that atonement [reconciliation, covering of sin] could be made on it. word study 16 Moses also took all the fat [the richest or best part] that was on the entrails [the inner parts, the midst], the lobe [the caudate lobe] of the liver [the heaviest organ], and both kidneys and their fat, and burned it all [made a perfume, offered as an act of worship] on the altar [the place of sacrifice, where offerings are made to God]. word study 17 But the bull [young ox, sacrifice] with its hide [skin], flesh [body, living thing], and dung [waste, excrement] he burned [set on fire, kindled flames] outside [beyond the boundary] the camp [encampment, group of people], as the LORD [Yehovah, God] had commanded [given orders, appointed] him. word study 18 Then Moses presented [brought near, offered] the ram [a strong male sheep] for the burnt offering [a sacrifice completely consumed by fire, a holocaust], and Aaron [the brother of Moses and the first high priest] and his sons [descendants, offspring] laid their hands [in a gesture of identification, support] on its head [the topmost part of the body]. word study 19 Moses [the Israelite leader] slaughtered [killed, immolated] the ram and sprinkled [scattered, poured] the blood [the liquid that flows through the body] on all sides [around, round about] of the altar [place of sacrifice, worship]. word study 20 He cut [divided, sliced] the ram [a strong tree] into pieces [fragments, parts] and burned [offered, made perfume with] the head [the topmost part of the body], the pieces [fragments, parts], and the fat [suet, animal fat used in offerings]. word study 21 He washed the entrails [inwards, inner parts] and legs [from the knee to the ankle] with water [a source of refreshment] and burned the entire ram [a strong male sheep] on the altar [a place of sacrifice] as a burnt offering [a step or stairs, often used to describe the ascent to the altar], a pleasing aroma [a soothing or pleasant feeling, like the peace that comes from trusting in God], an offering made by fire [an ishshah, a food offering or sacrifice given to God] to the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God], just as the LORD had commanded [given orders, appointed or ordained] Moses. word study 22 After that, Moses presented [brought near, offered] the other [second] ram, the ram [a mighty man; a post] of ordination [consecration, setting apart], and Aaron [the first high priest] and his sons laid [placed, rested] their hands [an open hand; strength, a side or share] on [upon, above] its head [the topmost part of the body]. word study 23 Moses [the Israelite leader, born to Amram and Jochebed] slaughtered [to kill, often used in the context of sacrifice] the ram and took [to get, receive] some of its blood [the liquid that flows through the body, essential for life] and put it on Aaron’s [the brother of Moses and the first high priest of the Israelites] right [the direction of strength] earlobe [the tip or extremity of the ear], on the thumb [the largest digit on the hand] of his right hand, and on the big toe [the largest digit on the foot] of his right foot. word study 24 Moses also presented [brought near, approached] Aaron’s sons and put some of the blood [the liquid that flows through the body] on their right earlobes [the tips of their ears], on the thumbs [the large digits] of their right hands [instruments of action], and on the big toes [the largest digits] of their right feet [the foot, the leg]. Then he sprinkled [scattered, poured out] the blood on all sides [around, surrounding] of the altar [a place of sacrifice, worship]. word study 25 And Moses took the fat [richest or best part]—the fat tail [rump, a delicacy], all the fat [choicest portions] that was on the entrails [inner parts, midst], the lobe [caudate lobe, a specific part] of the liver [heaviest organ], and both kidneys [essential organs] with their fat [surrounding tissue]—as well as the right thigh [leg, lower extremity]. word study 26 And from the basket [container for holding bread] of unleavened bread [sweet bread made without yeast] that was before the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God], he took one cake [flatbread, thin bread] of unleavened bread, one cake of bread made with [anointed by] oil [olive oil, ointment], and one wafer [a type of flatbread], and he placed them on the fat portions [the richest or best part] and on the right thigh [the strong or favored side]. word study 27 He put [delivered, gave] all these [everything, the whole] in the hands [palms] of Aaron [the first high priest] and his sons [descendants] and waved [moved back and forth, sprinkled] them before [in the presence of] the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] as a wave offering [a specific type of sacrifice, a token of dedication]. word study 28 Then Moses [the Israelite leader] took these from their hands [palm] and burned them on the altar [a place of sacrifice] with the burnt offering [a step or stairs, often used to describe the ascent to the altar]. This was an ordination offering [a setting or installing, often in a ceremonial context], a pleasing aroma [a soothing or pleasant feeling, like the peace that comes from trusting in God], an offering made by fire [an ishshah, a food offering or sacrifice given to God] to the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God, The covenant Name of God]. word study 29 He also took the breast [the front of the ram]—Moses’ portion [his designated share, a part of the ram] of the ram [a strong male sheep] of ordination [consecration, setting apart for God’s service]—and waved it [moved it back and forth, a wave offering] before the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] as a wave offering [a ceremonial gesture], as the LORD [the supreme God, the ruler of all] had commanded [given orders, instructed] him. word study 30 Next, Moses [the Israelite leader] took some of the anointing [holy, consecrated] oil and some of the blood [the liquid that flows through the body] that was on the altar [a place of sacrifice, worship] and sprinkled [scattered, poured out] them on Aaron [the high priest] and his garments [clothing, robes], and on his sons [descendants, heirs] and their garments [clothing, robes]. So he consecrated [set apart, sanctified] Aaron and his garments, as well as Aaron’s sons [descendants, heirs] and their garments [clothing, robes]. word study 31 And Moses [the leader of the Israelites] said to Aaron [the first high priest] and his sons, “Boil [to cook, seethe] the meat [flesh, the sacrifice] at the entrance [door] to the Tent [tabernacle, ohel] of Meeting [appointed time] and eat [to devour, consume] it there with the bread [food] that is in the basket [container] of ordination [consecration, setting apart] offerings, as I commanded [to give orders], saying, ‘Aaron and his sons are to eat [to partake, devour] it.’ word study 32 Then you must burn up [with fire, consume completely] the remainder [what is left, excess] of the meat [flesh, animal sacrifice] and bread [food, grain offering]. word study 33 You must not go outside [leave, depart from] the entrance [doorway, gate] to the Tent [tabernacle, sacred dwelling] of Meeting [assembly, gathering] for seven days, until the days [period, season] of your ordination [consecration, setting apart] are complete [fulfilled, finished]; for it will take seven days to ordain [consecrate, set apart] you. word study 34 What has been done [as he hath done, in this manner] today [at this present time, in this day] has been commanded [ordered, appointed] by the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord of Israel] in order to make [to cause, to bring about] atonement [to cover, to make reconciliation] on your behalf [upon you, for you, in your place]. word study 35 You must remain [abide, dwell] at the entrance [doorway] to the Tent [ohel, tabernacle] of Meeting [appointed time] day and night [by day and by night, daily and nightly] for seven days and keep [obey, guard] the LORD’s [Yehovah, God’s] charge [watch, responsibility] so that you will not die [perish, come to an end], for this is what I have been commanded [instructed, given orders].” word study 36 So Aaron [the first high priest] and his sons did everything [all things] the LORD [Yehovah, the self-existent God] had commanded [given orders, appointed] through [by the hand of, under the direction of] Moses [the Israelite leader]. word study
