1 From the blue [violet, obtained from a specific type of mussel], purple [royal color, from a specific dye], and scarlet [deep red, from the coccus ilicis insect] yarn they made specially [finely] woven garments [clothing, robes] for ministry [serving, worship] in the sanctuary [Holy Place, set-apart area], as well as the holy [set-apart, sacred] garments for Aaron [the first high priest], just as the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] had commanded [given orders, appointed] Moses. word study 2 Bezalel made [crafted, formed] the ephod [a special vest, priestly garment] of finely spun linen [fine twined, twisted threads] embroidered with gold [valuable metal, brilliant yellow], and with blue [violet, from the mussel dye], purple, and scarlet yarn [thread, from the coccus ilicis insect, deep red]. word study 3 They hammered out [beating into thin plates] thin sheets of gold [a valuable metal] and cut threads [cords or wires] from them to interweave [weaving in with, working in] with the blue [a violet dye], purple [a royal color], and scarlet [a deep red color] yarn, and fine linen [luxurious white linen]—the work [a deed or action] of a skilled [clever or ingenious] craftsman [a designer or artist]. word study 4 They made [to construct, fashion] shoulder pieces [upper arm coverings] for the ephod [a ceremonial vest], which were attached [joined, united] at two [a pair] of its corners [ends, edges], so it could be fastened [secured, coupled together] [to unite, join]. word study 5 And the skillfully [carefully, intricately] woven waistband [girdle, sash] of the ephod [a special priestly garment] was of one piece with the ephod, of the same workmanship [deed, action]—with gold [a valuable metal], with blue [a blue-violet color], purple [a deep purple], and scarlet [a deep red] yarn, and with finely [twined, twisted] spun linen, just as the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] had commanded [given orders to] Moses. word study 6 They mounted the onyx stones [precious gems, possibly green or blue] in gold [valuable metal] filigree [intricate, ornate] settings, engraved [cut, carved] like a seal [official signet, authentication] with the names [identities, characters] of the sons [descendants, children] of Israel [God’s chosen people, Jacob’s descendants]. word study 7 Then they fastened them on the shoulder pieces [over the arm-holes, upper end of the arm] of the ephod [a special vest worn by priests, made with gold, blue, and purple threads] as memorial stones [stones of remembrance, to commemorate] for the sons [descendants, children] of Israel [the symbolic name of Jacob, referring to his descendants], as the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] had commanded [given orders, appointed] Moses. word study 8 He made the breastpiece [a sacred pouch, the priest’s bag] with the same workmanship [cunning work, skilful design] as the ephod [a special vest, the high priest’s garment], with gold [a valuable metal], with blue [a violet dye], purple [a royal color], and scarlet [shani, a deep red color] yarn [fine twined threads], and with finely spun [twined, woven] linen [fine white fabric]. word study 9 It was [foursquare, perfectly square] square when folded over [doubled, repeated] double, a [unit of measurement, about half a cubit] span long and a span [the distance from thumb to little finger] wide. word study 10 And they mounted on it four [a specific number, denoting completeness] rows [arrangements, sequences] of gemstones [precious stones, including sardius, topaz, and emerald]: The first row [initial, primary sequence] had a ruby [sardius, a precious red gemstone], a topaz [a yellow or golden gem], and an emerald [a green gem, possibly a carbuncle]; word study 11 the second row had a turquoise [emerald, green gemstone], a sapphire [blue gemstone, lapis lazuli], and a diamond [jasper, clear stone]; word study 12 the third row had a jacinth [a precious gem, possibly ligure], an agate [a sparkling gemstone], and an amethyst [a purple stone]; word study 13 and the fourth row had a beryl [possibly a topaz or yellow jasper, a precious gem], an onyx [a green or blue gemstone], and a jasper [a valuable stone, often translated as such]. Each stone [a rock, a weight, or a precious gem] was engraved [with intricate designs cut into stone or wood, like the carving of a signet] like a seal [a ring used to sign important documents] with the name [a person’s identity, honor, and character] of one of the twelve [a pair, a duality, or a number] tribes [a clan]. word study 15 For the breastpiece [sacred pouch, the high priest’s garment] they made braided chains [twisted lace] like cords [wreathed work, intertwined threads] of pure [clean, ceremonially spotless] gold [a valuable, brilliant metal]. word study 16 They also made [crafted with skill] two gold [valuable and precious] filigree [intricate, embroidered] settings and two gold [pure, refined] rings, and fastened [attached securely] the two rings to the two corners [ends, edges] of the breastpiece [sacred pouch, priestly garment]. word study 17 Then they fastened [put, set] the two [a pair, dual] gold [valuable, brilliant] chains [cords, wreaths] to the two [a pair, dual] gold [valuable, brilliant] rings [signets, ornaments] at the corners [ends, edges] of the breastpiece [sacred pouch, priest’s bag], word study 18 and they fastened [secured, attached] the other ends [terminations, extremities] of the two [a pair, dual] chains [cords, wreathen ropes] to the two [a pair, dual] filigree [intricate, woven] settings [frames, ouches], attaching [putting, setting] them to the shoulder [upper arm, joint] pieces [parts, straps] of the ephod [a vest, priestly garment] at the front [before, in the presence of] [facing, opposite]. word study 19 They made [crafted, formed] two more gold [valuable, precious] rings and attached [fastened, secured] them to the other two corners [ends, edges] of the breastpiece [sacred pouch, holy container], on the inside edge [lip, border] next to [toward, beside] the ephod [special vest, priestly garment]. word study 20 They made two additional [more, extra] gold [valuable, precious] rings and attached them to the bottom [lower part, underneath] of the two shoulder [upper arm, joint] pieces of the ephod [special vest, priestly garment], on its front [face, presence], near the seam [joining, joint] just above [higher than, over] its woven [skilfully made, intricate] waistband [decorative belt, sash]. word study 21 Then they tied [bound securely] the rings of the breastpiece [sacred pouch, containing the Urim and Thummim] to the rings of the ephod [special vest, worn by priests] with a cord [thread, made of blue yarn] of blue [violet, obtained from a specific type of mussel] yarn, so that the breastpiece was above [upon, on top of] the waistband [decorative belt, artwork] of the ephod and would not swing out [be loosed, removed] from the ephod, just as [according to, in obedience to] the LORD [Yehovah, central aperture] in the center [midst, middle] of the robe [a high priest’s outer garment] like that of a garment [habergeon, a type of armor], with a collar [a band, an edge] around the opening linen], the ornate [fancy, goodly] headbands [head-tires, bonnets] and undergarments [linen breeches, trousers] of finely spun [twined, twisted] linen, word study 29 and the sash [girdle, belt] of finely spun linen [fine twined linen], embroidered [of needlework, the work of an embroiderer] with blue [violet], purple [royal purple], and scarlet [deep red, crimson] yarn, just as the LORD [Yehovah, the supreme God] had commanded [given orders, appointed] Moses. word study 30 They also made the plate [tiny ornament, flower] of the holy [set-apart, consecrated] crown of pure [unmixed, refined] gold, and they engraved [wrote, inscribed] on it, like an inscription [writing, carving] on a seal [signet ring]: HOLY [dedicated, consecrated] TO THE LORD [Yehovah]. word study 31 Then they fastened [tied, attached securely] to it a [lace of] blue [violet, from the mussel dye] cord [thread, string] to mount [fasten, secure] it on the turban [mitre, head-dress], just as the LORD [Yehovah] The Israelites [sons of Israel, descendants of Jacob] did everything [all that was commanded] just as [in accordance with, precisely as] the LORD [Yehovah] had commanded [given orders, instructed] Moses [the leader, prophet]. word study 33 Then they brought [presented, took] the tabernacle [the sacred tent, dwelling place] to Moses: the tent [ohel, a nomad’s home] with all [every, everything] its furnishings [utensils, equipment], its clasps [hooks, fasteners], its frames [boards, planks], its crossbars [bars, beams], and its posts [pillars, columns] and bases [sockets, foundations]; word study 34 the covering [of tanned ram skins] of ram skins dyed red [to redden, flushed], the covering [of sealskins, badgers’ skins] of fine leather [from badgers or antelope], and the veil [curtain, screen] of the covering [tabernacle’s protective screen]; word study 35 the ark [sacred chest, container of the covenant] of the Testimony [God’s laws, witness to His presence] with its poles [staves, carrying bars] and the mercy seat [atonement cover, lid of reconciliation, place of propitiation]; word study 36 the table [with all its equipment, vessels] with all its utensils [articles, tools] and the Bread of the Presence [showbread, sacred bread, food before God]; word study 37 the pure [ceremonially clean] gold lampstand [candlestick] with its row [rank] of lamps [devices for light] and all [every] its utensils [vessels], as well as the oil [olive oil] for the light [illumination]; word study 38 the gold [precious, highly valued] altar [place of sacrifice], the anointing [consecrated, set apart] oil [olive oil, ointment], the fragrant [sweet, pleasing] incense [aroma, perfume], and the curtain [hanging, screen] for the entrance [doorway, threshold] to the tent [tabernacle, sacred dwelling]; word study 39 the bronze [copper or brass] altar with its bronze [made of copper or brass] grating [lattice-work or screen], its poles [staves or rods], and all [every single one] its utensils [articles or tools]; the basin [round container or platform] with its stand [base or pedestal]; word study 40 the curtains [hangings, screens] of the courtyard with its posts [pillars, columns] and bases [sockets, foundations]; the curtain [covering, veil] for the gate [entrance, doorway] of the courtyard, its ropes [cords, strings] and tent pegs [nails, stakes], and all [every, everything] the equipment [articles, utensils] for the service [work, ministry] of the tabernacle [the sacred tent, dwelling place], the Tent [tabernacle, dwelling] of Meeting [assembly, gathering]; word study 41 and the woven [finely wrought, beautifully made] garments for ministering [serving, performing sacred duties] in the sanctuary [Holy Place, set-apart area], both the holy [sacred, dedicated to God] garments for Aaron [the first high priest, leader of the Israelites] the priest [one who serves God and leads others in worship] and the garments for his sons [descendants, spiritual leaders] to serve [minister, perform priestly duties] as priests [spiritual leaders, intermediaries between God and people]. word study 42 The Israelites [children of Israel, descendants of Jacob] had done [made, completed] all [everything, the entirety] the work [service, labor] just as [in accordance with, exactly as] the LORD [Yehovah, The covenant Name of God] had commanded [given orders to, appointed] Moses [the Israelite leader]. word study 43 And Moses [the Israelite leader] inspected [examined, looked upon] all the work [labor, task] and saw [beheld, looked at] that they had accomplished [done, made] it just as [exactly as, in accordance with] the LORD [Yehovah, the Lord God] had commanded [given orders, instructed].
