10 Bible Verses on Trusting Man

10 verses

Scripture warns against placing ultimate trust in human beings, recognizing the limitations and fallibility of mortal men. According to Psalms and Jeremiah, those who put their trust in man rather than God are cursed and will be like a shrub in the desert. The prophets Micah and Jeremiah also caution against relying on human leaders or alliances for security, urging instead a reliance on God's faithfulness. Proverbs and Psalms similarly advise against trusting in one's own understanding or the counsel of others, emphasizing the importance of looking to God for guidance and deliverance.

It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man.
Do not rely on a friend; do not trust in a companion. Seal the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your arms. For a son dishonors his father, a daughter rises against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. A man’s enemies are the members of his own household. But as for me, I will look to the LORD; I will wait for the God of my salvation. My God will hear me. Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will arise; though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.
This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind, who makes the flesh his strength and turns his heart from the LORD. He will be like a shrub in the desert; he will not see when prosperity comes. He will dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
He who trusts in himself is a fool, but one who walks in wisdom will be safe.
Put not your trust in princes, in mortal man, who cannot save.
Put no more trust in man, who has only the breath in his nostrils. Of what account is he?
This is what the LORD says: “Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind, who makes the flesh his strength and turns his heart from the LORD.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.
“Let everyone guard against his neighbor; do not trust any brother, for every brother deals craftily, and every friend spreads slander.
