8 Bible Verses on The Last Supper

8 verses

On the night before His crucifixion, Jesus shared a poignant meal with His twelve disciples, instituting a sacred ritual that would become a cornerstone of Christian worship. As recorded in Mark 14:18-26 and Luke 22:19-22, Jesus took bread and wine, giving them new meaning as symbols of His body and blood, sacrificed for the redemption of humanity. The apostle Paul later reflected on this event in 1 Corinthians 11:23-25, emphasizing its significance for the church. In this intimate setting, Jesus also reaffirmed His role as the way to the Father, as stated in John 14:6, and according to Mark 14:22, He gave thanks and broke the bread, saying it represented His body given for them.

And while they were reclining and eating, Jesus said, “Truly I tell you, one of you who is eating with Me will betray Me.” They began to be grieved and to ask Him one after another, “Surely not I?” He answered, “It is one of the Twelve—the one who is dipping his hand into the bowl with Me. The Son of Man will go just as it is written about Him, but woe to that man by whom He is betrayed! It would be better for him if he had not been born.” While they were eating, Jesus took bread, spoke a blessing and broke it, and gave it to the disciples, saying, “Take it; this is My body.” Then He took the cup, gave thanks, and gave it to them, and they all drank from it. He said to them, “This is My blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many. Truly I tell you, I will no longer drink of the fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it anew in the kingdom of God.” And when they had sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
For I received from the Lord what I also passed on to you: The Lord Jesus, on the night He was betrayed, took bread, and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “This is My body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” In the same way, after supper He took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood; do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.”

Look! The hand of My betrayer is with Mine on the table. Indeed, the Son of Man will go as it has been determined, but woe to that man who betrays Him.”
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh and drink the blood of the Son of Man, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is real food, and My blood is real drink. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood remains in Me, and I in him. Just as the living Father sent Me and I live because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on Me will live because of Me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your fathers, who ate the manna and died, the one who eats this bread will live forever.”
