13 Bible Verses on Priorities

13 verses

In the pursuit of a righteous life, the Bible teaches that one's priorities should be centered on seeking God's kingdom and His righteousness. As Jesus instructs in Matthew 6:33, this focus should guide all other endeavors. The apostle Paul echoes this sentiment in Romans 12:2, urging believers to be transformed by renewing their minds to discern God's will. Furthermore, Jesus teaches that where one's treasure is, there their heart will be also, as seen in Luke 12:34, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing spiritual wealth. Exodus 20:3 sets the tone for this principle, commanding the exclusivity of worshiping God above all else.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
For if someone does not know how to manage his own household, how can he care for the church of God?

Then Jesus said to His disciples, “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storehouse or barn; yet God feeds them. How much more valuable you are than the birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? So if you cannot do such a small thing, why do you worry about the rest? Consider how the lilies grow: They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith! And do not be concerned about what you will eat or drink. Do not worry about it. For the Gentiles of the world strive after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek His kingdom, and these things will be added unto you. Do not be afraid, little flock, for your Father is pleased to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide yourselves with purses that will not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
As they traveled along, Jesus entered a village where a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. She had a sister named Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to His message. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations to be made. She came to Jesus and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord replied, “you are worried and upset about many things. But only one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, and it will not be taken away from her.”
And you shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
What does it profit a man to gain the whole world, yet forfeit his soul? Or what can a man give in exchange for his soul?
