12 Bible Verses on Perfection

12 verses

In Scripture, the pursuit of perfection is presented as a lifelong journey of growth and maturity in faith. According to Ecclesiastes, no human is perfectly righteous, and Matthew's Gospel records Jesus' teachings on striving for perfection as a reflection of God's character. The apostle Paul, in Philippians, humbly acknowledges that he has not yet attained perfection, but presses on towards the goal, while James emphasizes the importance of patience and endurance in achieving spiritual maturity, noting that only those who are perfect can control their tongues. Through perseverance, believers can reach completeness, as James encourages in his first chapter.

Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize of God’s heavenly calling in Christ Jesus. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God remains in us, and His love is perfected in us.
But if anyone keeps His word, the love of God has been truly perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him:
There is no fear in love, but perfect love drives out fear, because fear involves punishment. The one who fears has not been perfected in love.
so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine as lights in the world
because by a single offering He has made perfect for all time those who are being sanctified.
But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so—not being a forgetful hearer, but an effective doer—he will be blessed in what he does.
Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”
