In the biblical context, the concept of a ghost refers to a spirit or unclean entity that can interact with the living. According to Hebrews 9:27, it is appointed for people to die once, and then comes judgment, warning against seeking guidance from spirits of the dead. Jesus Himself, after His resurrection, assured His disciples that He was not a ghost by inviting them to touch Him, as recorded in Luke 24:39. The Bible also cautions against seeking to communicate with spirits, as seen in Leviticus 20:6 and Deuteronomy 18:9-12, and 1 John 4:1 advises believers to test every spirit to determine if it is from God.

When you enter the land that the LORD your God is giving you, do not imitate the detestable ways of the nations there. For whoever does these things is detestable to the LORD. And because of these detestable things, the LORD your God is driving out the nations before you.

So Saul died for his unfaithfulness to the LORD, because he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance, and he failed to inquire of the LORD. So the LORD put him to death and turned the kingdom over to David son of Jesse.
