11 Bible Verses on False Doctrines

11 verses

The Bible warns believers about the dangers of false teachings that can lead people away from the truth of God's Word. In 2 Timothy, the apostle Paul cautions that a time will come when people will gather around teachers who say what they want to hear, rather than the truth. The New Testament letters, such as 1 Timothy and 2 Corinthians, urge discernment and warn against false prophets and teachers who preach a different gospel, as seen in Galatians. Meanwhile, 1 John encourages believers to test the spirits, ensuring that they hold to the authentic teachings of Christ, and to be aware of the subtle deceptions that can lead astray.

For such men are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their actions.

I am amazed how quickly you are deserting the One who called you by the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— which is not even a gospel. Evidently some people are troubling you and trying to distort the gospel of Christ. But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel contrary to the one we preached to you, let him be under a curse! As we have said before, so now I say again: If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be under a curse! Am I now seeking the approval of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a servant of Christ.
Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God. For many false prophets have gone out into the world.
As I urged you on my departure to Macedonia, you should stay on at Ephesus to instruct certain men not to teach false doctrines

They will secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them—bringing swift destruction on themselves. Many will follow in their depravity, and because of them the way of truth will be defamed. In their greed, these false teachers will exploit you with deceptive words. The longstanding verdict against them remains in force, and their destruction does not sleep.
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
For God is not a God of disorder, but of peace—as in all the churches of the saints.
Woe to those who call evil good and good evil, who turn darkness to light and light to darkness, who replace bitter with sweet and sweet with bitter.
