The Bible teaches that the eyes are a window to the soul, revealing a person's character and intentions. In Matthew, Jesus warns against allowing worldly desires to cloud one's vision, while in Psalms, the psalmist commits to turning away from evil sights. The prophet Samuel is reminded in 1 Samuel that God looks beyond outward appearance, seeing the heart, and in Psalms, the writer asks for enlightenment to see wonderful things. Additionally, the story of Elisha in 2 Kings shows how spiritual eyes can be opened to see God's presence and power.

The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light.
I will set no worthless thing before my eyes. I hate the work of those who fall away; it shall not cling to me.
But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or height, for I have rejected him; the LORD does not see as man does. For man sees the outward appearance, but the LORD sees the heart.”
Then Elisha prayed, “O LORD, please open his eyes that he may see.” And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw that the hills were full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
No one lights a lamp and puts it in a cellar or under a basket. Instead, he sets it on a stand, so those who enter can see the light. Your eye is the lamp of your body. When your eyes are good, your whole body also is full of light. But when they are bad, your body is full of darkness. Be careful, then, that the light within you is not darkness. So if your whole body is full of light, with no part of it in darkness, you will be radiant, as though a lamp were shining on you.”
But I tell you that anyone who looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
Once again Jesus placed His hands on the man’s eyes, and when he opened them his sight was restored, and he could see everything clearly.
If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.
I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in your knowledge of Him. I ask that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know the hope of His calling, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and the surpassing greatness of His power to us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of His mighty strength, which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in the present age but also in the one to come.
