The Bible teaches that borrowing and lending are governed by principles of wisdom and responsibility. According to Proverbs, debt can lead to enslavement, as "the borrower is servant to the lender" (Proverbs 22:7). Jesus uses the example of counting the cost of a tower to illustrate the importance of careful financial planning (Luke 14:28). Additionally, the parable of the unfaithful steward warns that faithfulness in handling earthly resources is a prerequisite for true stewardship (Luke 16:11), and Proverbs emphasizes the value of leaving an inheritance for future generations (Proverbs 13:22) and the benefits of prudent management (Proverbs 21:20).
