8 Bible Verses on Burial

8 verses

In the biblical account, death and burial are portrayed as a natural part of life, yet also as a transition to eternal life with God. Genesis 49:29 records Jacob's request to be buried with his fathers, highlighting the importance of honoring one's ancestors. The early Christian community, as seen in Acts 8:2, showed great respect for the dead by giving Stephen a dignified burial. Through baptism, believers are united with Christ in His death and burial, as described in Romans 6:3-4, and raised to new life with Him. Ultimately, Revelation 21:4 promises a future where death and mourning will be no more.

God-fearing men buried Stephen and mourned deeply over him.

Afterward, Joseph of Arimathea, who was a disciple of Jesus (but secretly for fear of the Jews), asked Pilate to let him remove the body of Jesus. Pilate gave him permission, so he came and removed His body. Nicodemus, who had previously come to Jesus at night, also brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about seventy-five pounds. So they took the body of Jesus and wrapped it in linen cloths with the spices, according to the Jewish burial custom. Now there was a garden in the place where Jesus was crucified, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid. And because it was the Jewish day of Preparation and the tomb was nearby, they placed Jesus there.
