In God's plan, humanity is created to live in freedom, unencumbered by the burdens of sin and oppression. According to Psalms, the Lord sets the captive free, as seen in Psalms 118:5, where the psalmist declares God's deliverance from distress. The apostle Paul writes in Galatians 5:13 that believers have been called to freedom, while in Romans 6:18, he notes that we are freed from sin's bondage to become slaves of righteousness. Jesus Himself teaches in John 8:31-36 that knowing the truth, specifically the truth about Himself, brings freedom, as He says in John 8:36, "If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

For you, brothers, were called to freedom; but do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Rather, serve one another in love.
So He said to the Jews who had believed Him, “If you continue in My word, you are truly My disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” “We are Abraham’s descendants,” they answered. “We have never been slaves to anyone. How can You say we will be set free?” Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin. A slave is not a permanent member of the family, but a son belongs to it forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
to open their eyes, so that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those sanctified by faith in Me.’
It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not be encumbered once more by a yoke of slavery.
Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you. Through Him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the law of Moses.
Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin. He thus condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteous standard of the law might be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.
For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not from yourselves; it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized, and wash your sins away, calling on His name.’
