Zacharias

The name "Zacharias" (or Zechariah) means "the Lord has remembered" in Hebrew. This name is derived from the Hebrew root "zakar," which means "to remember." In the Bible, Zacharias is associated with several figures, the most notable being Zechariah the prophet and the father of John the Baptist.In the Old Testament, Zechariah is one of the minor prophets, whose book is part of the Twelve. His prophecies, primarily concerning the restoration of Jerusalem and the coming of the Messiah, emphasize God's faithfulness and His plan for redemption (Zechariah 9:9-10). In the New Testament, Zacharias, the father of John the Baptist, is depicted in Luke 1:5-25. His encounter with the angel Gabriel reveals the fulfillment of God's promise, emphasizing the theme of remembrance in relation to God's covenant and His people. The name Zacharias, therefore, not only signifies God's memory but also highlights the continuity of His saving work throughout biblical history.
