The Flesh

10 sermons

In the biblical context, "the flesh" refers to the human body and its sinful tendencies, as opposed to the spiritual nature of humanity. According to the apostle Paul, the flesh is in conflict with the Spirit, with the flesh seeking to satisfy its own desires and interests, while the Spirit seeks to follow God's will (Galatians 5:17, Romans 7:18). The Bible teaches that believers must crucify the flesh, putting to death its sinful desires, in order to live a life pleasing to God (Galatians 5:24, Romans 8:13). Through faith in Christ, believers can overcome the weaknesses of the flesh and live a life guided by the Spirit, as promised in Scripture, "for those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit" (Romans 8:5).
