Discerning Evil

1 sermons

Discerning evil is a crucial aspect of the Christian faith, as believers are called to be vigilant against the deceptions that can lead them astray. Scripture warns us of the reality of evil forces at work in the world, as seen in Ephesians 6:12, where Paul reminds us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the spiritual forces of evil. Jesus, in Matthew 7:15, cautions us to beware of false prophets who come in sheep's clothing but inwardly are ravenous wolves, emphasizing the need for discernment among believers. The wisdom found in Proverbs 2:10-11 teaches that when wisdom enters our hearts, knowledge will be pleasant to our souls, and discretion will protect us, guiding us away from paths of wickedness. Furthermore, 1 John 4:1 encourages us to test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. As we navigate our spiritual journey, we must rely on the Holy Spirit, who equips us with discernment, enabling us to recognize and resist the subtle influences of evil. Ultimately, our ability to discern evil is rooted in a deep relationship with Christ, as we seek to walk in the light, as He is in the light (1 John 1:7).
