Demonology

Demonology in the Bible refers to the study and understanding of demons, their nature, characteristics, and roles within the spiritual realm as depicted in Scripture. The term itself is derived from the Greek word "daimon," which denotes a spirit or a divine being, often with negative connotations when referring to evil spirits. In biblical texts, demons are frequently portrayed as fallen angels or malevolent beings that oppose God’s will and seek to influence or harm humanity. The New Testament provides significant insights into demonology, particularly through the ministry of Jesus, who encountered and exorcised demons on multiple occasions, as seen in passages like Mark 1:34 and Luke 8:2. These encounters illustrate the authority of Christ over demonic forces, revealing their subjugation to His power. In addition, the Apostle Paul discusses the spiritual warfare against these entities in Ephesians 6:12, where he states that our battle is not against flesh and blood but against spiritual forces of evil. The biblical view of demonology emphasizes not only the reality of these evil spirits but also the ultimate victory of God over them, assuring believers of their protection and deliverance through faith in Christ.
