Unsaved Religious America

E.A. Johnston · 4:35

E.A. Johnston warns that America is filled with unsaved religious people who mistake mere religion and church membership for true salvation through Christ.
In this prophetic sermon, E.A. Johnston addresses the alarming reality of unsaved religious America, where many mistake religion and church membership for true salvation. Drawing on the words of William Booth and Scripture, Johnston challenges believers to recognize the spiritual deadness in the nation and the church. He calls for genuine repentance, Holy Spirit conviction, and a return to authentic faith in Christ. This sermon serves as a sobering wake-up call to the church and society alike.

Over 100 years ago, the founder of the Salvation Army, William Booth, made a prophetic statement about the modern-day church. He said he feared the day when we had religion without the Holy Spirit, Christianity without Christ, forgiveness without repentance, salvation without regeneration, politics without God, and heaven without hell. Guess what, friends? That day is here.

You are living in it. In unsaved religious America, we have all those things. My Bible says in Proverbs, There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

And that verse, friends, pretty much sums up unsaved religious America. Oh, I wouldn't call America a Christian nation because it's far from that, but it's a religious nation. It seems just about everybody has some kind of religion.

If you stop most folks on the street and ask them, most would say they have a religion they believe in, they have a God they serve, and they have a destination they are heading for. Whether they are Muslim, Mormon, Catholic or Jew, a Methodist, Presbyterian, Lutheran or Baptist, they have some kind of religion and a God they serve. America is a very religious country, very patriotic, very opinionated, and very dead spiritually.

I have never known a time like the times we are living in, where society is a moral cesspool of perversion that spills across the land, making a filthy stink out of everything it touches. And I've never seen a time in the church where it is comprised of mainly unsaved religious people who don't have a clue they have missed Christ and heaven and are kicking up dust on their religious way to hell. It's a day of the empty religious profession that hates the Lordship of Christ as much as the devil does.

Like William Booth predicted, we have a church in this country that has religion without the Holy Spirit, and we have a Christianity without Christ. And folks joined the church and were baptized thinking they could have forgiveness without repentance and salvation without regeneration by mistaking church membership for salvation. We have men in the pulpits with doctor degrees who don't know God and preach a damning message to their congregations, who are mainly comprised of baptized individuals who are strangers to a work of grace upon the heart.

They've never been awakened to their lost condition, never have come under Holy Spirit conviction, never have exercised repentance toward God, and never have gotten their sins washed in the blood of Christ Jesus. All they did was make a mental ascent to some religious truth and made some kind of religious decision and joined the church. They don't know Christ, and Christ doesn't know them, and God will not allow any religious rebels into his holy heaven.

If he did that, he'd have to apologize to the scribes and the Pharisees who crucified the Lord of Glory. But many stand in that same religious crowd as them, crying out, we will not have this man reign over us. God will bring a great sword of judgment upon unsaved religious America if it doesn't turn back to him.

Heaven help us all.
