We are in a series of messages, friends, on the great doctrines of the gospel, the doctrines of rune, redemption, regeneration, and repentance. Our last message covered the doctrine of rune. Today we'll be handling the doctrine of redemption.

The title of my message today, friends, is redemption washed in the blood. Our Bibles speak of a blood redemption. In Hebrews chapter 9 verse 22 we read, And almost all things are by the law purged with blood, and without shedding of blood is no remission.

Then we have Christ Jesus' words on this very thing in Matthew chapter 26, For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. And we read in Romans 5 9, Much more than being now justified by his blood, we should be saved from wrath through him. And I like what the Apostle Peter has to say in regard to this in 1 Peter 1 verses 18 and 19, For as much as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things as silver and gold from your vain conversation, received by tradition from your fathers, but with the precious blood of Christ as a lamb without blemish and without spot.

There's a story I like to tell about a blood-marked door, and the story goes like this, friends. During a cruel and bloody war, a commander took an oath in the presence of his troops that he would slaughter the entire population of a certain town, and then his soldiers were set loose on the defenseless people. One of the townspeople hid in a bush as he watched a number of soldiers break into a house and kill everyone inside with the sword.

Upon leaving the house, one of the soldiers dipped the cloth into a pool of blood and splashed it on the door as a sign to any who might follow of what had taken place inside. Well, the man hiding in the bush made a fast escape to a large house in the center of town where a number of his friends were hiding. Breathlessly, he told them what he had just seen.

At once they knew what to do. A goat was in the yard. Immediately it was killed, and its blood splashed on the door.

They had barely closed the door when a band of soldiers rushed into their street, but when they came to the blood-marked door, they made no attempt to enter. The sword, they thought, had already done its bloody work. So as the population of that town was slain that night, all within the blood-marked door were saved.

Well, this story brings to my mind, friends, the account of the first Passover as given by Moses in Exodus 12, which states, And the Lord spake unto Moses, Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, They shall take to them every man a lamb. Your lamb should be without blemish, and the whole congregation shall kill it in the evening. And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two sideposts with the blood.

For the Lord will pass through to smite the Egyptians, and when he seeth the blood, the Lord will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you. Listen, friends, the children of Israel were in perfect safety, for the Lord had said, When I see the blood, I will pass over you. Jesus Christ was sacrificed for us upon a bloody cross at a place called Calvary.

His shed blood has stayed the sword of divine judgment for all who by faith take shelter in it. Listen to me, friend, there is no hope for this poor preacher except this, that Christ's life is laid down and applied to me. And there is no hope for you, friend, unless you get your sins under Christ's blood.

When God looks at you, and when God looks at me, our only hope is that he will say, When I see the blood, when I see the blood. In Revelation 1 5 we read, Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood. On that bloody cross, the Prince of Glory died.

Have you put yourself under its shelter? The blood-marked door saved those on the inside, and the blood of Christ is the only safety from the judgment of a sin-avenging God that will soon break forth upon this sinful world. If you were driving in a torrential rainstorm, and the bridge was washed out ahead of you, friend, and I came by, and I flashed my lights, and I warned you about it, and I pleaded for your safety, and you just passed on by, regardless of that warning, you would fall to your death. Likewise, it's utter recklessness to avoid this warning of a future judgment for all mankind, where God will judge the world in righteousness.

And if you remain in your sins, friends, outside the safety of Christ's blood, you will perish into a burning lake of fire. Listen, friend, if you want to escape the wrath of God in a burning hell, then you must be washed in the blood and born from above. Don't be caught outside of Christ.

He that believeth not the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him. Get this great matter of eternity settled, friend, for it will determine whether you end up in heaven or hell. God commanded his love toward us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

I beg you, friend, listen to the word of God from the prophet Jeremiah. Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I set before you the way of life and the way of death. Listen, friends, I've set before you the way of life and the way of death today.

The cross is the place where men sought to get rid of Jesus, but by his death, he becomes the place where his saving power flows out to all who come in repentance. Confess that they are sinners and own them as their Savior and Lord. Christ invites poor sinners to come to him and believe on him.

The duty required is to come. Listen, friend, if you've not trusted this blessed Savior, receive him now before it's too late. Soon he will come in judgment on this world when his anger shall burn as an oven, and then you shall meet him as your judge.

Well, I'm going to sing a hymn, friend, and if God has been dealing with you through this message, if you've seen your way to life, your way to eternal life through Jesus Christ, and then you get serious with God, friend, and become a beggar for mercy, and come lay your sin burden down, and place your faith in a bloodstained Savior from sin, the Lord Jesus Christ, who is the pearl of great price, he's worth selling all for and losing all for so he may be gained. Listen, friend, you come and get your sins washed in his blood. You come to Christ as I sing.

I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came from glory, how he gave his life on Calvary to save a wretch like me. I heard about his groaning, of his precious blood's atoning. Then I repented of my sins and won the victory.

Oh, victory in Jesus, my Savior forever. He sought me and bought me with his redeeming blood. He loved me ere I knew him, and all my love is due him.

He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood.
