God lives and works today. Who among us wouldn't like to experience his wonderful reality, especially with respect to the anxieties of life? Perhaps you too are burdened with worries, tormented by them day and night. Listen to today's meditation by Basilea Schlink called You Don't Have to Worry.

We've all experienced how worries can harass and distress us. In most worrisome situations, we begin to pity ourselves, and this only makes the mountain of worries grow. Jesus, however, wants to help us to overcome worrying.

The first measure our Lord takes is a clear and startling word in Matthew 6, verses 31 and 32. Do not ask anxiously, what are we to drink? What should we wear? All these are things for the heathen to run after. In these words, Jesus is passing judgment upon us, for he brings to light our secret sin.

Whoever worries is rejecting God. In the next minute, the Lord can transform everything. It means that we're not counting upon the love and concern of God, and that we don't believe that his fatherly heart has already thought up a way to help us.

Therefore, we have to make a cut with the very first anxious thought that creeps into our hearts. It is Satan who is lurking behind you, painting such a black picture of everything that might happen. He wants anxiety to crush you to death, to make you despair and give up hope.

But there is a weapon which can help you learn to resist the devil. It's helped me time and again. Whenever Satan began to whisper his lies, I would reply, but God will carry me through, my father will care for me and my loved ones.

His love always has a way. Like a father, all-providing, wisely and in love deciding, how to turn my loss to gain. Yes, if you express your trust in song and prayer, you will experience that your thoughts of worry will disappear.

And every time Satan tries to put such thoughts back into your heart again, answer in the same way. I trust in the love of God. And then you'll be victorious over all your worries.

Your heart will not only be filled with peace, but you will radiate peace and joy, bringing honor to God, the mighty and loving Father. I will trust, though fears surround me, and my cares pile up around me, with no loophole for escape. Yes, O Father, I can trust Thee, who does help and deals so justly, firmly planned with Thy sure aid.

So I thank Thee now already, for Thy promise sure and steady cannot fail to come to pass. You have been listening to a program written by Basilea Schlink of the Little Land of Canaan.
