The Way to Heaven

God lives and works today. He wants his children to be happy, and isn't that what we want too? Don't we all long for a little bit of heaven in our life on earth? But how few of us ever find what we're looking for. Perhaps you're one of those who have been searching for happiness, who have tried almost everything, but have only been disappointed.

Then listen to today's meditation by Basilea Schlink about a way that is guaranteed to bring you joy. Oh, to be happy, that was the real desire of my life. I implored God, show me the way to supreme joy.

In answer to my prayer, Jesus showed me a wonderful key that unlocked the heavenly portal, thus opening the way to tremendous joy. And if I now say what that key is, at first we wouldn't think it's so wonderful, or that it would really open heaven for us. Yet it really does bring us heaven.

It's called repentance. Repentance is a secret that has to be discovered, for repentance means turning over a new leaf. And if I turn my back on my former way of life with all its bad habits, the thoughts of bitterness, hatred, reproach, touchiness, complaint or resentment and self-pity, if I repent of my irreconciliation with another person, if I make a radical cut with all impurity and sensuality, then I have renounced my former way of life.

I've started on a new path. On the first path, I had persisted in certain evil and sinful habits. Although I might have gained certain pleasures in doing so, I finally found out that I only grew angry, unhappy, and my heart was embittered and torn.

But if I now choose a path going in the opposite direction, then naturally it will bring me just the opposite, a heart full of peace and joy, something we all long for. Yes, repentance really is the key that unlocks the door to heaven. Repentance lets us taste heaven and joy.

This door is open to everyone, for Jesus stands at its entrance. Everyone who wants to turn around from the wrong path comes first with his sins to Jesus. Arms outstretched, Jesus is just waiting to put his hand upon us and say, Your sins are forgiven.

His blood cleanses us from all our sin so that we may enter a new life. Yes, repentance drives us into the arms of Jesus. And if we come into contact with Jesus, we'll become happy and transformed, for then we're united with the one who's the source of all joy.

Yes, Jesus loves us so much that he laid his life down for us. Turning around to Jesus means following a new path of happiness. This way leads us to heaven, glory and eternal bliss.

And on this path, even in this life, we will taste divine joy. Our sinners find God's promise sure. Who sorrow for their sins.
