The One I’m Waiting for

God lives and works today. Whether you are young or old, surely you can remember the daydreams and thoughts about your future partner, your dream person, and what he or she would be like. And yet many of us have been disappointed.

For who could ever completely live up to all of our expectations? However, God lives and works today. He has an answer to the greatest longings of our lives and more. We will hear more about this in today's meditation by Basilea Schlink called, The One I'm Waiting For.

You tell yourself, the one I'm waiting for must be someone I can really love. He must be compassionate and always notice how I feel. And of course he must be handsome and taller than I. He must be strong and courageous and not afraid of anything.

He must love me jealously just as I am and always forgive me when I do something wrong. He should be wealthy too, well at least a little bit, and must be able to provide for our future. He ought not to have any hobbies so that he'll always have time for me.

And in addition he must be a good example for me in everything. This dream person you're waiting for, I've found him, but he's exceeded my expectations so greatly that I can't begin to tell you. It's Jesus.

He's the one who asks after you, who cares for you, and who loves you with unspeakable love and concern. He's the one who wants to share everything with you. His overflowing, blessedly happy life, his father and his father's house.

He's the one who became like us, who shared with us the troubles, suffering, weakness, temptations and pain of life, and so he understands you completely. He's the one who will never leave you alone, but who's always with you to help you and to banish all of your fears. He's the one who wasn't subject to sinful drives, but as the Son of God overcame the temptations of sin.

Therefore, he can save you from all of your sins. Yes, he's the one who is strong enough to save you from all drives, lusts and addictions, even to drugs. He's the one who died a terrible death out of love for us, so that now death has no more power over you and me.

He's the one who has power to forgive your sins and wash away your guilt. He's the one who can do what no one else can do, destroy the work of the devil in your life. He wants to take you completely into his possession, which will only bring you joy, for he alone is the one who can make you truly happy.

He's the one who is the truth, whose word is reliable and always valid. He can be trusted in every situation. Yes, Jesus is the one you're searching for too.
