The Blessedness of Faith

God lives and works today. In our times, when our world is so torn by insecurity and turmoil, God is offering a lifeline to those who love Him. A lifeline which they can hold on to and therefore remain safe in the stormy ocean of our times.

What is this lifeline? It is faith. Faith is triumphant with the promises of God because it knows God keeps His promises. Do you long to grasp hold of this lifeline and to have a faith that is unshakable? In today's program by Baselia Schlink, this lifeline is tossed out to us.

What an offer of the love of God! Faith enables us to see the glory of God. It transforms sin into grace, death into life, grief into joy, and sinners into redeemed saints. Faith can do all things.

Nothing is too hard for it. Whenever it begins to work, everything is made new. The blessed power of faith is the gift of the grace of God.

It is the gateway to the land of freedom, redemption, and help. Perhaps we can understand why our Lord Jesus was so anxious that His disciples learned how to believe. Why He sighed and lamented, O ye of little faith.

He wanted them to become men of faith because He knew that then they would hold out through all battles, hardships, and impossibilities. Yes, by faith they would also be able to quench all the flaming darts of the wicked. Because faith holds fast to the Redeemer and Lord of heaven and earth.

It has power over everything. Oh, if we could only believe! For our true hardship is not that we are lacking this or that, or that we have no money, or that we are tied and bound by our sins. Our real hardship is that we lack faith.

Faith transforms everything. Where there is faith, nothing remains the same. Faith can move the mighty arm of the Lord, and the arm of the Lord brings down help, transforming people and things.

Why do we so often fail to believe? Why is it so difficult? Many of us make the excuse, it's our intellect which prevents us. But is that really the hindrance? It would be more honest to say that it's our ego which stands in the way. Scripture tells us clearly that the kingdom of God belongs to the childlike, to those who trust.

Children have to believe. They must simply take everything on faith and trust. This dependence is their happiness, for it puts them in the Father's arms and surrounds them with His love and care.

There they rejoice. I myself can bear witness to this. It's worthwhile to be poor and miserable and helpless, because then we're driven to pray to God in faith.

This will enable Him to show us His fatherly love, a love which is stronger than the mightiest river, and at the same time, more tender and thoughtful than any earthly love. How good it is to rest in this love. We need only to believe.
