John Gill Bible Commentary
Verily I say unto you,...., Christ takes an occasion from hence to teach his disciples humility, and guard them against pride and vanity: whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God; the King Messiah, the doctrines of the Gospel, and the ordinances of it, even the whole Gospel dispensation; as a little child; without prejudice, pride, ambition, and vanity, with meekness, and humility: shall in no wise enter therein; a very unfit and improper person to be a professor of the Gospel; or to be admitted to Gospel ordinances: or be a member of a Gospel church; or be reckoned a subject of the Messiah's kingdom, which is of a spiritual nature; and as he has not a meetness for, and a right unto the kingdom of glory, he shall never see it, and enjoy it.

By Basilea Schlink54604:35Radio ShowMAT 4:17MAT 5:3MAT 6:33LUK 15:7LUK 18:17ACT 3:19JAS 4:8In this sermon, Basilias Schlinck discusses the lack of manifestation of the kingdom of heaven among Christians. Childlikeness
By Mary Wilder Tileston0MAT 18:3MAT 19:14MRK 10:15LUK 18:171CO 14:20Mary Wilder Tileston preaches about the importance of childlikeness in receiving the Kingdom of God, emphasizing the need for perfect trust, resting in God's love, and living in His power. Childlikeness involves simplicity, joy, contentment in one's circumstances, singleness of intention, yielding of the will, and forgetfulness of self in favor of God's claims. To be childlike in the pure sense is to live in God as one's Father, Preserver, and Guide, recognizing His perpetual Presence and Providence.
Whosoever Therefore Shall Humble Himself
By A.B. Simpson0Christlike LoveHumilityMAT 11:29MAT 18:3MRK 10:14LUK 18:17JHN 13:15ROM 12:10EPH 4:2PHP 2:5JAS 4:101PE 5:6A.B. Simpson emphasizes that true humility comes from being born again through Christ, as humanity has lost its original simplicity and approachability. He encourages Christians to embody a childlike spirit, being relatable and loving towards others, rather than becoming stiff and self-conscious. Simpson illustrates this with the example of Christ, who approached people with genuine humanity and love, demonstrating that it is through simple acts of kindness that we can connect with others and lead them to salvation. The sermon calls for believers to seek a heart like Christ's, one that is warm and inviting, to effectively reach out to those around them.
Faith
By D.L. Moody0Childlike FaithPrayerPSA 37:4MAT 18:3MAT 21:22MRK 11:24LUK 18:17ROM 10:17PHP 4:19HEB 11:1JAS 1:61JN 5:14D.L. Moody shares a touching story about a little girl who, despite her family's dire circumstances, demonstrates unwavering faith in God's provision. When her father goes to war and the landlord demands rent, the mother is distraught, but the child encourages her to pray for a home. The girl's heartfelt prayer reflects her innocent trust in God, leading to a miraculous change in the landlord's heart. Moody emphasizes the importance of childlike faith and the expectation of God's answers to our prayers, urging listeners to cultivate such faith in their own lives.

By Zac Poonen0PRO 11:2ISA 11:6MAT 12:18MAT 18:4MAT 23:12MRK 9:35LUK 18:17PHP 2:3JAS 4:101PE 5:5Zac Poonen preaches on the importance of humility and childlike faith in the church, drawing parallels to the peaceful reign of Jesus on earth. He emphasizes that true leaders in the church are those who are humble and guileless like little children, not seeking recognition or status. By following Jesus' example of humility and simplicity, leaders can create an atmosphere of peace and unity within the church, reflecting the kingdom of God. Poonen highlights the need for self-examination among leaders when discord arises, urging them to embody the characteristics of a little child to lead effectively.
The Child-Like Spirit an Essential Condition of Entering Heaven
By Charles Finney0Child-Like FaithHumility in SalvationJHN 1:12PSA 131:1PRO 3:5MAT 5:3MAT 11:25MAT 18:3MRK 10:15LUK 18:17JAS 4:101PE 2:2Charles Finney emphasizes the necessity of adopting a child-like spirit to enter the kingdom of heaven, as illustrated by Jesus' teachings in Matthew 18:3 and Mark 10:15. He outlines key characteristics of children—transparency, humility, trust, affection, and a teachable spirit—that reflect the qualities essential for salvation. Finney argues that without these traits, individuals remain dishonest and unfit for God's kingdom, as they lack the simplicity and openness required to receive divine truth. He concludes that true conversion transforms individuals into a state resembling that of little children, enabling them to embrace faith and humility before God.
We Must Receive the Kingdom as Little Children
By Andrew Murray0Childlike FaithHumilityMAT 11:25MAT 18:3MRK 10:15LUK 18:17JHN 3:3ROM 8:15GAL 4:6PHP 4:13JAS 4:101PE 2:2Andrew Murray emphasizes the necessity of receiving the Kingdom of God with the simplicity and trust of a little child. Just as the Prince of Wales inherits his kingdom by birth, we must be spiritually reborn by the Holy Spirit to embrace the Kingdom with a childlike heart. Murray points out the difficulty for adults, burdened by their own wisdom and strength, to adopt such humility and trust, yet he reassures that with God, all things are possible. He calls believers to let go of self-reliance and embrace the Kingdom in faith and gladness, just as a child would.
Like Unto the Flesh of a Little Child.
By F.B. Meyer0Childlike FaithSpiritual Cleansing2KI 5:14PSA 51:10MAT 11:28MAT 18:3MRK 10:15LUK 18:17GAL 5:22EPH 4:22JAS 1:171PE 2:2F.B. Meyer reflects on the beauty and purity of a child's flesh, contrasting it with the leprous state of our souls. He emphasizes that through Jesus, we can experience not just forgiveness but a complete cleansing, returning to a state of youthful purity. Meyer highlights the importance of childlike qualities such as humility, unselfishness, trust, and love, which Jesus imparts to us. He distinguishes between childishness, which we must outgrow, and childlikeness, which we should aspire to as we grow in Christ. Ultimately, the sermon calls believers to embrace these childlike attributes to reflect the nature of Christ.
