Manna in the Wilderness

God lives and works today. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. And this means that the wonderful things He did for people yesterday, He can still do today.

Yes, those who love God can experience His help and guidance in just as wonderful ways as the people in the Bible. Are you longing to experience God's intervention in your life? Today's meditation by Besselia Schlink called, Manna in the Wilderness, will tell you how you can. The children of Israel are an example for all of us.

God's strong hand had brought them out of the land of bondage, out of the hands of the Egyptians. He had led them out of slavery, but into the wilderness. After 15 days of traveling through the desert, the way only grew even more cumbersome and difficult, especially for the traveling company of women and children.

The people of Israel were experiencing firsthand what it means when God leads us through a desert. One is left at the mercy of the wild animals, and death lurks everywhere. As far as the eye can see and the mind can reason, no help can be expected.

And so whenever one must journey through the desert, one is totally dependent upon the mercy of God. One must rely upon help that can only come in some miraculous way. What would happen to the children of Israel when their food and water supply ran out? Would they turn to God for help? No, they didn't turn to Him.

They, who should have believed like children in the love and helping power of the Father, rebelled like slaves against Him. As we read in the Scripture, they murmured against Him with the words such as, God just brought us out into this wilderness to let us all die. Is that really why God led the Israelites along the difficult paths through the desert? No, He led them along such ways in order to bring them into a good and beautiful land.

Which was to be their own possession. He wanted to prepare them to take possession of and to rule over the fruitful blessed land of Canaan. However, God didn't forget about His people's immediate needs.

In His love, He had prepared for them a special food. The manna and the quail that He sent them are an eternal sign for all of us. A testimony that God prepares good things for us.

He wants to let us taste of His love and help, especially during these times when He must lead us through spiritual wilderness. Therefore, if you're in the wilderness, don't complain. Rather, believe and you will experience that God will bring you into a good land, both now and for eternity.
