If You Say So

God lives and works today. His deeds and miracles are not something that just happened once, a long time ago. They can happen today, too.

For Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever. He is waiting for people who dare to step out in faith at His Word, because they have full confidence in His power. Listen to today's program by Basilish Link for more about this.

Peter's landing place by the Sea of Galilee speaks of the glory and power of Jesus Christ. It tells us that if we believe and obey the words of Jesus, we, too, will see His glory, just as Peter did. Obedient to an apparently senseless command of Jesus, Peter rode his boat out into the lake in broad daylight.

There he cast out his nets, although there couldn't have been any fish there. Jesus' command contradicted Peter's whole experience as a fisherman. Yet he replied submissively, We worked hard all night and didn't catch a thing, but if you say so, we'll try again.

Peter trusted in the greatness and power of Jesus and believed that Jesus could transform a hopeless, impossible situation and perform a miracle. Could Peter find followers today who would risk obeying strange commands from Jesus? If so, like Peter, they, too, would recognize Jesus for who He truly is, the Lord Almighty, whom wind and waves, creation, and all the powers in heaven and on earth must obey. Would Jesus find Peter's among us today, people who are overwhelmed by His glory and greatness, who will fall at His feet with awe, saying, Depart from me, for I am a sinful man.

Jesus lives yesterday, today, and forever, and He waits for those who will follow Him in blind faith, who are ready to obey commands that are hard to understand. He is looking for those who are willing to humble themselves beneath their sin and admit their guilt, who can give Jesus the reply of love. Peter's answer was an example for all of us, and Scripture tells us in Hebrews chapter 13, Remember those who spoke to you the word of God.

Consider the outcome of their life and imitate their faith. So let us pray together. Dear Lord Jesus, I, too, want to taste some of Your power and glory in my life.

I surrender myself to You with Peter's word, if You say so. Yes, at Your word I will do what You say. Lord Jesus, I trust You and thank You even now that You reward such faith by demonstrating Your power and glory.

May I receive as a gift of Your grace that which You once gave to Peter, faith, obedience, repentance, and love. Gladly for Thee, dear Lord, what Thou dost ask I'll give, and never rest until how Thou dost bid I live Thy holy will fulfill. Gladly for Thee, dear Lord, whatever cost may be, no sacrifice too great, heart, will, all I give Thee, the planning of my future.
