God lives and works today. He longs to reveal His power and love in our lives. And isn't this what we too would like, especially at Christmastime? This Christmas, God wants to draw near to us with the greatest of all Christmas gifts.

What is this gift, and how can we receive it? Listen to the answer in today's program by Basilea Schlink. Christmas has come again. The time when the love of God gave us the greatest present that it could possibly give.

Christmas is the time when the splendor of heaven comes to us anew. O miracle beyond compare, for heaven comes down for love of mercy. O how yes, despite our weary skin.

In our time, the face of the earth is becoming darker and darker. That is why it is important as never before that we take the message of Christmas seriously. The heavenly child, our Lord Jesus, has brought heaven down to earth.

He has opened once more the gates of paradise. We can be citizens of heaven. Now the earth with its burdens and difficulties can no longer rule over us.

On Christmas, heaven really did come down to us. On this holy night, heaven touched the earth, and Jesus visited His people. But where can heaven really dwell? Only in empty hearts.

It can't enter into hearts which are already filled with earthly things, with fears and worries, or with the busy life of this age, or even with all the busy preparations for Christmas. Heaven is not compatible with the earth, because earth resists heaven as the fallen creation. Wherever heaven comes, part of our earthly nature must give way.

The essence of heaven is peace. How can it be united with the hustle and bustle of this earth, which even fills our hearts around Christmas time? The essence of heaven is love. How can heaven come down to a human heart, which is living in strife or irreconciliation, without repentance and without the desire to be reconciled? As long as there is no reconciliation and peace in our lives, heaven must remain closed.

However, when sinners repent, all heaven rejoices and draws near to the earth. Rejoice! Heaven will come down at Christmas time. And this Christmas it wants to come down to fill your heart and home with this joy and bliss.
