But Do I Really?

God lives and works today, but perhaps you don't see him at work in your life or in the lives of the people around you. You wonder why there's no victory in your life and why your prayers don't ever seem to get an answer. Perhaps you are tempted to doubt that there will ever be a change and you wonder if God really has the power to work miracles today.

The following meditation by Basilishling tells about someone who did find victory. His story is an encouragement for us all. Perhaps you've already thought or even said aloud, I'm certainly Jesus' disciple and yet I can't achieve victory in the troubles and struggles of everyday life.

Why not? You might want to be set free. You might even want to follow in Jesus' footsteps, but when it comes to it in word and deed, not entirely. As an evangelist once expressed it, many snap after the promises of God but don't accede to the stipulations.

But what does this mean in practice? There was a minister who was greatly used by the Lord. He would pray every morning what you might call a resolution, like a New Year's resolution. This was based on faith in the full redemption of Jesus Christ.

He prayed, Oh Lord, today I want to practice being the least, a servant of others. I don't want to boast or say anything that would make me seem more important than anyone else. I want to welcome everything that humbles me.

I don't want to make any demands on the attention or kindness of others, but I want to serve them gladly with patience and love. Lord, I don't want to justify myself anymore. It's a fact.

If such a yearning for discipleship begins to grow in our hearts, you can be sure that God has planted it there. Yes, God has done everything, sacrificing His own Son, so that through the shedding of His blood, the power to overcome will flow into our self-centered lives. Therefore, don't accuse God, and that's what we do when we grumble.

We've really had the desire to follow Jesus, and yet we're not conquerors in our difficulties and struggles. All of us are free to claim the blood of the Lamb of God. The only question is, do I really want to? If yes, then I must take definite measures against myself, as this minister did in his daily quiet time.

Then I must continually claim the power of the blood of Jesus. This blood has the strength to break every chain of sin and to set us completely free. Your precious blood has such great might.

It saves from Satan's hold so tight. I praise your blood that sets me free from Satan's grip and tyranny. Only the conquerors, the victorious, bear the radiant crown of life.

Only they will be taken home with Jesus at His second coming. The victorious alone are the true vessels of blessing, who bear fruit for Jesus in their lives. Yes, bear fruit for today and eternity.

Your blood, O Lord, was shed for me. Accept my praise eternally. I praise your blood that sets me free from Satan's grip and tyranny.
