Blessed Are the Meek

God lives and works today. He is the God for whom nothing is impossible. Shouldn't He who created the heavens and the earth also be able to solve the difficulties and problems in our lives? Of course He can, but He doesn't always do it in the way we expect.

Today's meditation by Basilea Schlink called Blessed are the Meek tells about one of the surprising ways of God and how it totally transformed the relationship of a wife and her mother-in-law. Recently, a woman related how she came to a great turning point in her life. She had tremendous difficulties in her marriage and with her mother-in-law.

And one day, the matter came to a head. The woman was desperate. She'd reached rock-bottom level.

She contacted a counselor who listened to her for a long time without making any comment. Finally, he asked her, My dear woman, do you wish to become the lamb for your household? And the woman accepted this offer. She was willing to follow Jesus in His footsteps, willing to suffer.

Then everything was transformed. She had found the solution to her problems. How we respond in similar situations will be a matter of eternity one day.

For whoever lives now in the kingly spirit of Jesus, the Lamb of God, will also stand by Him, the King of kings in heaven. But what sort of spirit filled Jesus Christ? When Jesus is revealed to us in heaven, in His royal dignity, His glory radiating from the throne, where all the creatures worship Him, He will appear as the Lamb. This speaks for itself.

This kingly spirit of Jesus Christ is the spirit of the Lamb, the patient, self-sacrificial Lamb. That is why Jesus says in His Sermon on the Mount, Blessed are the meek, they shall rule this new earth. Only those who are filled with this spirit of Christ and have died to their ego will reign in heaven with Jesus as priests of God.

As it says in Revelation chapter 20, If this spirit of the Lamb, this spirit of patience and love, lives in us, then Jesus, the King of kings, lives in us, and we shall join Him at His side as kings. As we read in 1 Corinthians 13, the characteristics of this love are, It bears all things, endures all things, is not resentful, and does not cease. Shortly before His betrayal and death, Jesus said very emphatically, By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.

What a wonderful expectation we have! If the spirit of the Lamb dwells in our hearts, one day we may behold His countenance and be with Him forever. If I round His throne, blessed ones, by Him set free, walk by the crystal sea, radiant with love like Him.
