Mike Bickle

Mike Bickle (1955 - ). American evangelical pastor, author, and founder of the International House of Prayer (IHOPKC), born in Kansas City, Missouri. In 1999, he launched IHOPKC, pioneering 24/7 prayer and worship, growing to 2,500 staff and including a Bible college until its closure in 2024. Bickle authored books like Passion for Jesus (1994), emphasizing intimacy with God, eschatology, and Israel’s spiritual role. Associated with the Kansas City Prophets in the 1980s, he briefly aligned with John Wimber’s Vineyard movement until 1996. Married to Diane since 1973, they have two sons. His teachings, broadcast globally, focused on prayer and prophecy but faced criticism for controversial prophetic claims. In 2023, Bickle was dismissed from IHOPKC following allegations of misconduct, leading to his withdrawal from public ministry. Well, I want to talk about the life of king david in the old testament Now this is one of the most dynamic And inspiring stories in the whole of the bible the life of king david matter of fact There's more on david than anyone in the bible besides jesus And so some of you you've never read the life of david. You're not aware of it And I have written here in this story. It's so dramatic. There's heroes There's villains There's the power of god manifest. There's romance all the way through miracles Radical commitment to god. Yes scandals sex murder betrayal the life of david is must read material you really want to know the life of david when I was a A believer in my teens i'd never heard about david and I went to a seminar When I was about 18 years old and I heard a guy talk a few times I thought I gotta get familiar with this. This is dramatic stuff Now we admire david's passion for god God called him the man after god's own heart Could you imagine god calling you? The man or the woman after god's own heart. He was only a teenager and the lord pronounced that over him. I mean, that's remarkable But the thing that we really relate to about david was how weak he was Here there are so many failures that are recorded in david's life You know when I read his life I go man I love jesus, but I can relate to this guy the way he stumbles but i'm inspired Because david refused to give up he would stumble and fall. I mean he did some bad stuff But he rose up and ran to god with all of his heart instead of retreating and failure and shame and condemnation Paragraph b i've already mentioned this But this is the sentence that the lord spoke over david in his teenage years When the prophet samuel the old aged prophet He was said that the lord has sought for himself a man after his own heart. Did you know that the lord is seeking right now? All over the earth for people that have a heart for him And he doesn't just take radical devotion Seriously when you get older He looked at david maybe 16 15 16 17 years old. No one knows for sure Now when you read the life of david you might be surprised to find out He was in a big family But he was rejected. He had seven older brothers and they actually rejected him. He was the youngest He was a lonely child in a poor family In a far away little town that nobody ever paid attention to Now some of you you said hey, that's me. I'm a lonely child In a family without not very much money and i'm in a far I mean in a family without much money in a far away little town And you know what god still found david because uh God's eyes are searching. It says he's he's searching for people like this I believe the lord's eyes are on this auditorium right now tonight This uh life of david is the story of a young man He was rejected by his family He was nobody. He was the lowest in his family in terms of respect but the story of king david is Over time he learned he was a somebody to god And there's a lot of folks that feel like they're a nobody in terms of other people's opinions But I have really good news for you But the lord wants you to discover if that's you that you are a somebody to him And that is the storyline of the life of david Well paragraph c and we're not going to do the whole handout here But I just like to give you the key points so you can take them away with you When god called david a man after his own heart It means three simple things to me to be a woman after god's own heart 15 years old A man after god's own heart, maybe you're 14 15 16 number one David was committed to obey the commands of god's heart. He stumbled a lot, but he rose up and he recommitted himself That's point one of being a person after god's own heart number two David was a student of god's emotions The emotions of god's heart, you know god has more than power. He has very deep desires and emotions David was the theologian of god's emotions David revealed more about god's emotions in the old testament than any other person by far So as I began to study the life of david I began to discover god has delight in his personality He has happiness. He has passion. He has joy He likes us He doesn't just forgive us and use us. He actually likes us even in our weakness David was a student of god's emotions And some of you even in your teenage years, you're going to set your heart like david young man young woman Say i'm going to be a person after god's own heart. I'm going to study Not just god's power. I want to study his emotions What god feels like? Because here's what I discovered When I learn a little bit about how god feels It changes the way I feel it changes the way I view myself and the way I view others well the third thing Being a man after god's own heart. He served the purpose of god and his generation He found out that you know every generation god is doing unique and specific things in every generation The book of acts tells us david served the purpose of god in his generation You know one famous preacher said I love this. I've heard this many times from different preachers but a preacher once said Find out what god is doing in your generation and throw yourself into it 100 Let me say that again find out what god's doing in your generation And when you discover it throw yourself into it with all of your heart. Well god's doing a number of things That's not my purpose to break that down tonight, but set your heart God i'm going to commit to obey the commands of your heart I want to know the emotions of your heart and i'm going to serve the purpose of this generation I'm going to give myself to it 100 Now david had several different occupations so Serving god full blast Doesn't mean quote you're going to be a preacher some people think if you really are serious about god You're going to be a preacher. Well, you might be But that isn't necessarily Uh what it means to be radical for god to be a preacher david was a preacher David was a military man. He He was part of the military. He was in the army In his youth and even in his adulthood David was in the government. He was in politics David was a full-time Musician at one time. I mean he really gave himself To a music he was a songwriter great musician songwriter singer But then david trained companies of young people when he got older how to grow in music and in songwriting and in and singing so What was david? politician military man Musician singer preacher intercessor. I mean he had many facets to his assignment in god So whatever god has called you to your assignment in terms of your occupation Be radical for god Be a david a woman or man after god's own heart Look at paragraph d Isaiah said god said this through isaiah I have given david to be a picture For all the peoples or a witness god put his hand on david That's why there's more about david than any other man in the bible, of course besides jesus Because the lord says i'm going to make david the picture Of how I want people to relate to me I want david to be the picture of how People are going to live before me with all their heart And again, we see david's weakness. That's why i'm glad god chose david as the picture If he chose somebody he was perfect You and I would look at that picture and go, you know that life story and go well That's not gonna work for me. I mess up too much. I'm too weak I don't have enough gifts. I don't have enough money. I don't have enough personality to do this But when you look look at king david the lord says I made him a witness I made him a picture for the rest of humanity To know how to relate to me to know how to live before me paragraph e This is one of my favorite in time prophecies And i'm going to pray this over you in a few moments look what it says This is in jeremiah 3 15. This is a prophecy. You want to put your name on? And god's talking about the generation the lord returns I mean, you all know jesus is returning right? Everybody knows that he's coming back. We don't know when But we're getting closer and closer to that time when he's going to come I think it's possible that he might return in your lifetime. I don't know for sure But many many people around the world believe Many millions of people believe that jesus is going to return in the next generation or so And it could be in your lifetime. I don't know But I know this that in the generation the lord returns He said this I'm going to give i'm going to raise up shepherds according to my heart In other words shepherds like david David was the only man the only person god gave the description after my own heart And here he says through jeremiah the prophet jeremiah 3 i'm going to raise up shepherds After my own heart one translation says or according to my heart Or you could say it this way i'm going to raise up shepherds of my people Who are like david? I'm going to give them the power that was on david The insight into my heart the grace to be abandoned to me The confidence to know I delight in them. I'm going to make them like david And i'm going to cause them to be a shepherd of my people Now being a shepherd of god's people Doesn't necessarily again mean you're the pastor of a church I mean pastors are shepherds but people in the marketplace that love jesus. They are shepherds as well You can be a shepherd and be involved in Academics or media or military many different spheres of society god has placed his people And he actually calls them shepherds And if they live like david live they can be a shepherd after god's own heart Notice what they'll do. They'll feed the people on knowledge Now not just head knowledge on the knowledge of god David fed the people in his generation on what god was like How to know god how god feels God says i'm going to raise up shepherds Just like david They're going to be after my own heart They're going to be committed to obey me. They're going to know my emotions. They're going to serve my purpose And i'm going to raise them up and anoint them to feed other people on the knowledge of who I am I believe all over this room There are young people that god says I want you to be a shepherd after my own heart. I've got plans for you Now, of course david didn't know Anything about the big calling on his life. He was a shepherd boy He took care of sheep And the lord says well, that's good. I'm going to meet you there, but i've got a lot more in store for you paragraph f The importance of knowing david's story Is it can be our story? The reason I want to know the life of david again. It's quite a long story It's many chapters in the bible the reason I want to know it Because it's part of my story The reason i'm pointing this out to you Your story is connected in david's story When you get familiar with it many of you will say oh This is what i'm doing. This is what god's doing in me. I understand this episode And it makes sense in my own life My life makes more sense now when I see that david the one god chose to be a picture and a model for the rest of us It's a story of how god sees our heart It's a story About how we move god's heart that was one of the things that david understood most That when he would talk to god it moved god's heart. Nobody else believed that hardly, but david said oh god really likes me David understood that in a very unique way. He was he was unique in how much he understood how much he moved god's heart It's a story here in paragraph f of how god uses and even enjoys Weak and broken people like us Do you know that god doesn't just want to use you? He wants you to know he enjoys you When I began to discover this as a young man It was it changed my life I mean, I wanted god to use me, but I didn't ever think of him enjoying me I thought well, I know he saved me I mean jesus died. He has to save me, but I always thought of as god stamping my passport and saying okay Bickle you're in heaven next, you know slacker stamp next isaac bennett stamp neck misty stamp stamp. You're in She got two steps God's more than interested in stamping your passport so you can get into heaven He says misty. I really like it when you talk when you ask those deep questions that cause pain in your heart that you're confused by that You even think they challenge me I don't mind it talk to me you move my heart misty I enjoy your discovery of me Because I was hearing her tell her story this i've heard it, you know, she's been here the whole 18 years of ihop I've heard her tell her story many times many facets She had so much anguish and pain when she was 15 16 18 20 25 A lot of like oh, I don't know how it works. Why are you so far god? Why do you want him? And she was so so much emotion And I remember uh being her leader back in those days and saying misty. I got good news for you God actually likes this about you She goes. I just think i'm rebellious. I go. No, you're actually not He's drawing out deep things in your heart. He's gonna settle them. God's really secure. He's not worried about your questions He like really likes you even though you don't like yourself that much and you don't understand yourself that much when you're 15 and 20 Years old, but god likes you and god understands you She would look at me and says no proven. How do you know that? Well king david was one of the first ones to really Discover that look at this verse here second chronicles The eyes of the lord Oh, I love this verse. They're going to And fro all over the earth the eyes of the lord. He's searching He's searching look He says to show himself strong in other words to release his power God says i'm looking for people and i'm going to show my power in their life But I want their heart loyal to me I mean people loyal to god. We still stumble We still fail but here's a loyal believer. They stumble and fail. I mean they cross lines and they go. Oh God, I really did that they get back up. They really repent and they give themselves right back to god Loyal doesn't mean they're never weak loyal means they refuse to give up and they keep coming back to him Well paragraph g I give you the Places where the life of david you can find it. It's one continuous story Start in first samuel 16 in the old testament go right through to second samuel all 24 chapters I mean it's It's a big story You know in in my early days when I I first discovered the life of david when I was 18, I was so Intrigued I didn't know anything about david. I didn't know it was a like really must read story so maybe Once a year sometimes twice a year. I want to challenge you to do this for about 20 years I was in my 60s now. So in my 20s and 30s for about 20 years. I don't know. I didn't count the number I would take a day I want to challenge some of you 16 17 18 years old. I would take a day I would read the whole story of david in one day I'd read for an hour or two Get up get a peanut butter sandwich Read for another hour or two get up go run around for 10 15 minutes I'd read the whole it's like 40 chapters or something like that's 24 plus 16 what's 24 plus 16? Anyway, it's that many chapters I never was good at geography. So i'm not I can't add all that up. Okay But anyway some big number of chapters it took me all day But maybe once a year sometimes twice a year i'd read the whole life of david in one day And I would just be at the end of the day kind of like whoa I mean, I was just filled with the story some of it. I didn't understand at all But I just wanted to be familiar with it I mean if david is the picture that god wants of what it means to walk with god. Well I said i'm gonna know the life of david Well, let's look at a little bit of his story let's look at the very beginning roman numeral 2 the prophet the old aged prophet samuel I mean, he's a old man with real long hair because he had that nazirite val and he could never cut his hair from his youth his hair's piercing eyes, you know, i'm guessing a little pointed finger, maybe not but He was the most famous man in israel This Anointed paladin. He's the most famous man in israel. He comes to bethlehem now bethlehem Was a little town of a couple hundred people You know again i'm I like misty's story because she grew up in west texas Now those of you that are from west texas, you know, her town was two or three hundred people Like the big thing was going to walmart, but that was like an hour drive to walmart That was the big thing for for their town Well, maybe i'm exaggerating a little bit, but there's a really little hot boring little town and she just thought god forgot her And some of you are from little out of the way places And there's nothing special about your life. This is david's story. He's in bethlehem We know bethlehem now because jesus was born there But david was a thousand years before jesus and it's a couple hundred people. It's a poor town verse one the lord said to the aged powerful most famous man in israel saw samuel I'm sending you To little out of the way bethlehem Now this is about a 25 mile walk for this elderly prophet. This is a big deal You know when you think you're In bethlehem remember little out of the way town. Remember that's what bethlehem was God knows how to send somebody to you God knows your address His database is up to date. He knows more about you. He's never late. He knows exactly where you are You think well i'm not on the big stage. You're in the big city. I don't have opportunities. Nobody knows my name Nobody is looking for me God says i've already found you and I know your name and I know how to send even the most famous prophet in the earth to your hometown if I want to God knows how to set up divine appointments You're going to run across the path of the right people at the right time. The lord's already organized it for your life So don't look at your life and think Oh, it's always going to be this way. I don't know anybody. I don't have that many gifts. I don't have much money I don't have that much opportunity for education. The lord says I know How to send the people to you so he sends the most famous man in israel to little bethlehem little out of the way town The lord tells the prophet I've provided a king for myself in that town you know the prophet samuel's a king from bethlehem, you know from I mean the smallest poorest little out really Why would the king be from there again now we know bethlehem is famous because of jesus but This is a thousand years before jesus is born So samuel verse 4 I'm reading from my uh notes. I edited down here I encourage you to read the longer version in the whole story in the scripture first samuel 16 So samuel he comes into the town And when you read the stories the elders of the town of bethlehem, they're going oh no There's something wrong Why would a man as powerful as you come to a place as out of the way as this is god mad at us? He says no. No i'm gonna Have a sacrifice and a meal I'm gonna have a meal with a family here He said really? Well, everybody here is poor and uneducated. Why do you want to have a dinner with one of us? Well, he goes I want to meet I want to go to jesse's house Jesse was a man. He had eight sons several daughters a big family verse 6 Samuel looks at eliab the oldest of the eight boys of jesse's eight boys And samuel looked at him and I wow tall dark handsome, you know, that's the guy He's amazing eliab And he and samuel goes that's the lord's king. That's the anointed the lord verse 7 interrupts samuel Don't say that you got the wrong guy How could he be the wrong guy? He's the oldest He's handsome. He's strong. He's powerful. You learn a little bit more about eliab in the story of david Look at verse 7. I love it The lord says samuel you're a good prophet, but you missed it Don't look at his outward appearance Don't look at his ability Don't look at what he accomplished Don't look at his success beloved. Don't even look at his failure God says i'm looking at his heart and you're looking at his outward life I don't choose men or women based on their outward life I don't choose them based on how beautiful how popular how How how gifted how much money how smart how witty their personality? I don't choose them based on that I don't even just I don't even dismiss them because of their failure I don't look at their outward life when I choose them. I choose them because of what's in their heart Verse 7 the lord said don't look at his appearance. I've refused him the prophet's like you well You didn't choose the main the older brother the tall dark and handsome brother. Nope For the lord does not see like man sees this is one of david's greatest truths He really understood god sees people different. That's what gave david confidence Because david says I don't have all the abilities I don't have the position my brothers have but god says but you got a heart that moves towards me different than they do verse 8 Jesse called the number two son a benedet he goes Benedet come over here put him in front of the prophet this My number two man almost as tall dark and handsome The lord speaks to the prophet samuel. No I didn't choose him either top of page two the drama builds Turn your page over if you're following with the notes verse 10 first samuel 16 Jesse made all seven of his sons wait He has eight sons Here's the point that i'm going to develop a little bit more later David was the youngest they didn't even consider him to invite him to the meal He was that rejected by his father and his brothers All seven of the sons passed And every one god said to samuel the prophet. Nope Nope number five four Three three more two more one more all seven None of them the prophet is very confused lord. I thought you told me to go to jesse's house Lord says I did Verse 11 The prophet samuel says to the father jesse. Hey You got seven sons is somebody not here at the dinner table with us that's in your family he goes well Yeah, I guess technically there is one more Is really How come you did? I mean, this is the most famous man in israel comes to little port bethlehem and they won't even invite david to the table I mean, could you imagine? You know the most famous Leader, you know billy graham and the most powerful prophet whatever whoever came to your house And they make you mow the lawn that day No, really Look at what he says verse 11 Samuel said are all the young men here the father jesse's as well. There's one more but he's the peewee of the family But notice he goes there he is I want you to notice that phrase there. He is keeping the sheep Keeping the sheep Was as a such a menial task They could have paid somebody a couple dollars an hour to keep the sheep while they had that dinner for an hour or two I mean keeping the sheep was as menial as mowing the lawn The youngest boy in the family could do it Meaning He didn't need to be doing that right then it was mowing the lawn It was a very very small task, but they didn't invite him to the dinner on top of that Samuel, I mean the jesse goes there he is meaning david was within view of the house. He goes. Yeah, he's right there in the yard David's in there Smelling, you know the food and the they're cooking the meat and he's out there, you know taking care of the sheep going I just wish my family would let me in. I wish they would accept me You read the whole story the prophet says We're not We're not going to go forward till he's at the table So they run down one of the brothers david david. Come on. Come on. The prophet wants you there He goes why does he want me there? He goes well We didn't think it was important for you to be invited But god has a different view than we do So they come running up to the house and you know, because david's watching the whole thing He's just down the way, you know, you can see the house. You can see them all sitting there God knows your address God's never too late god found david on the back side of the hills of little bethlehem. God can find you He knows you because see david we find later in the story would be out at night 14 15 16 years old while all the rest of the family came in They left him out at night to watch the sheep just in case And he would have his little harp his guitar 14 15 16 looking up at the stars saying god Oh god of israel. I love you Oh god of israel You're my friend and his brothers would be at the house feasting or all having the social things David would be all by himself have his little guitar. Some of you are in the backside hills of bethlehem You're in that same situation a little out of the way place. Maybe you're in a major city But it seems like nobody even knows you're there Your family doesn't Seemingly value or respect you you're not invited. You're not popular in your school You're not popular in your youth group. You're not popular in your neighborhood You don't feel like you have any special gifts any special abilities you don't have any opportunities everybody passes you by But the lord says I see you over there singing to me Not that you have to be a gifted musician to do that. I mean david would say god, but I love you And if god was developing a friendship with david while all the others were busy in all of their popularity He was developing a friendship with god in his teens and then god made him king of israel But he made him king after the friendship was strong and solid with god because he said david I don't want you to ever lose that friendship with me. So i'm gonna let you develop that first before I show you my plan A lot of you that's the season of life you're in God has you in a place where almost nobody notices you nobody pays attention It looks like there's no opportunity and the lord says i've got you where I had david I want you to develop your conversation with me you and me and then i'm going to open some things up for you and surprise you But then you and me will be strong together at that time I want you to notice I'm going to mention just ever so briefly Seven different things. Well, there's about 50 in the life of david That I could point out matter of fact I have on the back on the very bottom of the page there a little ad That I have a I taught the life of david here and I help you at our ministry school for 28 sessions 28 weeks in a row. I loved it. It was so exciting I've done it many times over the years taught the life of david over 40 years of being a pastor, but it's free It's on the internet. You watch the videos get the notes everything if you're saying I gotta get this david thing down Where should I go? I'm gonna encourage you just go to our website and just start learning the life of david And maybe every now and then every year or two take a day and read the whole story of david and see yourself Relating to god like david did well Anyway, i'm going to point out seven I could you know, there's maybe 40 or 50 characteristics about david's life Number one david was He valued the power of the holy spirit's ministry You know, the holy spirit gives more to the people who are hungry for the holy spirit's ministry You want to be with friends you want to read books that inspire you To grow in the power of the holy spirit here's the very next scene after Samuel anoints young david at the that big dinner a couple verses later verse 13 Paragraph c 1 samuel 13. I mean 1 samuel 16 verse 13. The spirit came on david right when samuel prayed for him Right, but here's an interesting thing when the holy spirit came on david this teenager a distressing spirit came on king saul the king of the nation and this was going to cause trouble because like a a spirit of oppression A demonic attack came against king. Saul the powerful king, but the anointing came upon this little boy Who sang songs to god late at night when nobody would pay attention to him? And the king's court said hey verse 16 You're in trouble. You got a demon on you Let's do this. Let's look all throughout the land. Let's find a gifted singer and musician And when he plays The distressing spirit the heaviness on you will lift You'll be well you'll get free so they found david here he is again 17 18 years old he comes in with his guitar his heart He's never met the king never been in the capital of the nation before it's only been a little town like whoa Because he was a good musician And they knew the spirit was using him so david would play and sing before the lord and this demonic Distressing spirit on the king. I mean the most powerful man The nation would lift and the king would feel peace and say hey kid david. You got any cds? I mean, I want more of this stuff Well, they didn't have cds in those days So they would call david all in regularly david was a man of the spirit The power of the spirit was on him. I mean we know the famous story of goliath that happened The next thing the very next chapter here's this boy 18 years old about 17 He challenges goliath And the anointing of the spirit comes on david and he defeats the giant So point one paragraph c. He's a man of the spirit. I mean, he loves the holy spirit's ministry Let's look at roman numeral three david Was rejected here's the number two thing, but he refused to draw back and quit You know a lot of times I mean his family rejected him his parents rejected him His city didn't give him the people around him didn't pay any attention to him You know what? A lot of people do and I understand it. It's very normal when they get rejected They're in their school their youth group their family for whatever reason. Sometimes they're not really rejected They just feel rejected, but sometimes they really are rejected You know what they do They draw back they give up and they just cave in and decide to be Just a loner the rest of their life and they don't believe for anything with god They just like i'm gonna just be alone and i'm and their vision for their life gets really small David said no I'm, not gonna let rejection be the dominant story of my life. I'm not gonna do that He refused to let the rejection dominate his life This is one of the most important points here paragraph a He found his identity in his relationship with god, you know where we find our identity mostly By naturally in what we accomplish If we do good in sports or music or grades or we're popular or we get honor or recognition Or our position then we feel valuable because people look at us and say wow look what she accomplished When I mean get your identity, I mean the way that you define why you're successful Or why you're valuable. Do you know why you're valuable and successful? Not because you score the touchdowns or make the play the best music or have the best voice Are you the cutest person in the class? That's not why you're valuable. You're valuable because god loves you and you love god David found his value His success that's what I mean by identity in his relationship with god Not by what he accomplished in front of people The enemy wants you to define your life by how much you accomplish and how many people applaud you God wants you to find your value and your success by the way. He loves you in the way you love him And that's what david did. That's the most important part of his life You know i've got this little sentence Down here at the end of paragraph 8 I've said it many many times over the years When life is many many times there's tough circumstances and I go. Oh lord Wait, I have to figure out what i'm doing and I would pause i've done this for years for many decades And I would say this one sentence wait Life is hard circumstances aren't working, you know in relationships or money or physically Maybe i'm my body's being attacked or everything's not going right. I'll draw back. I'll say wait wait wait god You love me You're the god that created the stars the most powerful being the uncreated god you like me I could have made And i'm by the grace of god. I like you I mean, do you know that out of 7 billion people in the earth most of them don't love god. They don't like god God loves them, but they don't love god. But you know what you Somehow by the grace of god, not only does god love you. You actually love him back You say I don't love him that well, but beloved you're on the journey and some of you are really radical. Do you know what? God loves you. You love god. You're one of the most successful people In the whole earth because of that reality You know of all the billions of people in history that refuse the love of god You will stand among those that said yes to him that makes you one of the most successful people in history already Because the majority don't say yes to him in history You know, I think of the thief on the cross when jesus was died He died. Jesus says you'll be with me today in paradise. He dies He's in paradise He looks around bible says that we're kings and priests. He goes If I knew I was a king I wouldn't have been a thief back in that life I did what I'm in the glory of god in the celestial city the new jerusalem I'm part of the bride of christ. I'm a king and a priest Oh my goodness. I had I thought I was a loser thief that had no money Beloved you say yes to the love of god. God loves you and you love god Compared to the whole human race. You're already among the most successful. I mean there's about a billion of us But there's many billion more who said no I'm already successful I'm, not successful because ihop goes good i'm successful because the god who made the stars the genesis one god likes me That makes me incredibly successful I'm, really popular Because the god of heaven says mike I like you That's it If everyone else does that if he does I got it made If everyone likes me and he doesn't I've got nothing But he likes me and the miracle is by the grace of god. I like him Oh, I love this thing I don't just love the christian life I love living the christian life. I love this interaction with this god well, the Second thing about david he refused to give in to rejection and he lived in his identity God loved him and he loved god and therefore he's successful number three David set his heart to worship and seek god We got the famous the verse we use all the time here one thing I desire all the days of my life. I'm gonna have intimacy with god You know mary of bethany in the new testament She was the most I mean she had the heart the david heart Mary of bethany's this young single woman. Maybe she's in her late teens early 20s She never shows up in the book of acts. You never hear of her church history. She never preaches a sermon we know about But jesus said about her says that she sat at his feet She loved to sit before him and love him and hear his word and jesus said Mary has chosen the good part of life. Mary has chosen wisely like david did Number four paragraph c the fourth thing About david he had confidence in god's mercy when he failed Oh, I love this psalm 18, but you have to hear the whole story of psalm 18 I'm not gonna tell you but david wrote psalm 18 after one of his greatest failures I mean he compromised. I mean it wasn't good. It's a big story again Go to my website and you can see the whole story if you want to Check it out. You know, I go to all the details of when david was at ziklag And when david got free from his trouble and he'd still been in compromise, but god freed him He wrote the reason god delivered me because god likes me look at this verse 19 God delivered me from my trouble at ziklag Why god did why david did god deliver you? I mean you were in compromise in ziklag I know but I did repent but I had trouble my life was threatened enemies around me Everything was lost But god broke in and saved me why he goes because he likes me David but you were compromising. Yeah, but I repented and I know that he likes me and I ran to him. I didn't run from him And then david went on look at verse 35. He said oh god You treat me with such gentleness That's why i'm going to be great before you because you don't wipe me out. You're gentle with me in my failure Beloved if you know god likes you and you know that he'll be gentle with you You will run to him instead of run from him when you stumble in your sin paragraph d David had the spirit of a warrior He was courageous in facing the the giant goliath and many other giants beloved there. There's Giants raising up in our you know, the cultural wars there's hostility Against anyone who will stay true to jesus. Those are giants David was courageous He had a warrior spirit when obstacles were before him. He wouldn't just give up and give in Paragraph e David looked to the lord As his source lord, you're my protection You're the source of promoting me. David didn't promote himself because lord you will promote me when it's time You found me in bethlehem You sent me to the king. Saul. You found me wherever I was you opened the doors. You are my source In other words david trusted in god's leadership number seven paragraph f We see david's passion I believe the greatest achievement in david's life He was 37 years old. He was king age 37 He lived to be 70 He called all He made the big announcement before the nation. He's king over israel age 37 And it says that he Got the levites which we know the levites were the singers and musicians He gathered them together beloved he got 4 000 singers and musicians and said i'm gonna pay you to make it your full-time job and you're gonna Sing in my tabernacle tabernacle is a big tent Like just say it was a tent about this size I don't really know how big it was, but he made a tent in his backyard was backyard was the palace. So It's a nice backyard. He put a tabernacle and in that tabernacle He put the ark of the covenant which was a piece of furniture about the size of his pulpit a little bit bigger And it represented god's throne And you know around god's throne in heaven. There's singers and musicians So david the ark of the covenant which represented god's throne He said i'm gonna put singers and musicians and they're gonna sing before god day and night How radical was that? Could you imagine? David it says he called all the military leaders. He's age 37. They're all probably 60 and 70 years old He says hey, I got a new idea I'm gonna Put singers and musicians in jerusalem before the ark. They went. Okay, that's kind of weird But why well because there's singers and musicians around the throne in heaven. Okay, that's cool Uh, we're gonna do that like for a weekend. No, no, no, no, no We're gonna i'm gonna pay them it's gonna be their new full-time job Really? That's kind of weird No, no. No, this this is i'm gonna he's worthy and he's worthy of this kind of devotion And i'm gonna put him in their place and the glory of god's gonna be released in our nation As they cry out night and day before him All the commanders of the army they go. Okay How many you thinking 10 or 20 goes no 4 000 david David We need to put that money into the military. We need to protect our nation This is going to be part of our homeland security. We're going to have night and day prayer in our nation That's going to be part of homeland security And it was referred to as david's tabernacle It was that tent at the at the backyard of the palace where the singers and musicians night and day glory to god Worthy worthy singing night. He trained them. They're not david This is a little bit fanatical. We know you love music. We know you're the famous singer David said this is not about me being a singer. It's about the glory of god and the power of god being released in my generation Look what david did Not only did david put 4 000 singers in place and pay him look at uh, uh verse 25 of second chronicles 20, uh 29 david Commanded all of the kings after him. He says from now on david was a thousand years before jesus He goes from now on every king after me You have to pay singers and musicians and have them minister before god night and day day and night night and day He commanded all the leaders to put singers in place And they said david. Why are you commanding all the leaders after you? They said because god commanded me to command them And we'll end with this look at this One of the most amazing end time prophecies Acts chapter 15. This is the lord speaking. I will return talk about the second coming of jesus And I will rebuild the tabernacle of david I'm going to rebuild it and re-establish it And the rest of mankind will see the glory of god and begin to seek the lord below Now the tabernacle david's more than singers and musicians, but at the very core of it. He's raising up a worldwide worship movement of singers and musicians and preachers and kingdom of god people that have a heart like david And he's marking young ones right now and beloved He's going to establish the tabernacle of david so that the rest of the nations will seek the lord he ties the tabernacle of david to the evangelizing of the nations of the earth And I believe that right now i'm going to have rick come on up the worship team. I believe right now God's eyes are going all over the nations. He's looking at this room right now There's young david's Male and female and he says i'm going to make you shepherds after my heart i'm going to Re-establish my tabernacle related to my second coming Let's stand before the lord Rick and worship team Come forth. Oh, man. There you go work God's calling teens right now to respond to god Like david responded to god in his teens David focused on the beauty of god, you know, there's mary of bethany's you sit at the feet of jesus male and female and jesus said mary has chosen the best thing I want to pray for a mary of bethany that David's heart that gazes on the beauty that has intimacy with god Beloved some of you 12 13 15 16. It's not too early to start going deep Maybe you're in an out-of-the-way place. You feel rejected. Nobody even knows you're even there The lord says sing to me like david did come after me He said well, I stumble and fail be like david have confidence in my mercy. I delight in you i'm going to pray for The people that you say in your heart I want to be a shepherd after god's heart that prophecy in jeremiah 3 15. I quoted about a half hour ago God says i'll raise up shepherds They'll be like david If you know the lord has called you to leadership Not just a preacher. I mean anywhere Maybe it's in politics military academics media Maybe it's in the church world. He's called you to leadership to be a shepherd of his people But you want to live like david did I want to pray for you? some of you Like david he gazed on the beauty of the lord this one thing all the days of my life Beloved he started that in his teens. He said all the days not when I got older I did that in my teens when nobody cared about it You got that mary of bethany calling Jesus said you've chosen the good part to sit before me You say lord, that's that's me I mean, you might be a 14 year old boy. You may be an 18 year old girl. Does it matter what age you're? Male or female you're a mary of bethany. That's who you are. That's the calling god has on my heart I want the mary of bethany heart before everything I want to sit before him I want to choose the right thing. I want to gaze on the beauty like david did that's all the same thing If you would like prayer for that I want to invite you to come forward And we're gonna pray over you for about 15 minutes i'm gonna then break then give you time to Transition to go to the late night down at 10 o'clock. It's about a half a mile down the road here and play games Till midnight and have fun but talk about this with one another as well Oh, I appreciate all these folks coming up to pray for you. Holy spirit I invite your presence right now. Holy spirit. Mark mary of bethany's all over this room Holy spirit, we invite your presence mark hearts right now Singers and musicians like david The lord says i'm restoring the tabernacle of david that the nations will sing the lord Generation right now In this room So we're gonna be patient we're gonna get people to lay hands on you this is kind of weak those on the ministry team kind of Don't be afraid of just kind of pushing yourself back to the folks on the back row Oh We invite the presence of the holy spirit to mark hearts right now Mark shepherds, those are the leadership calling in your kingdom. They're 12 and 15 and 18 years old right now Jesus I want to be yours and yours alone Raise up I want to be yours The lord says do you know that I delight in you even in your weakness your mind Did you know? That because I love you and you love me you're already successful before me Holy spirit, we invite your presence across this room right now Fire in this room now The eyes of the lord go to and fro across the earth my Looking for those who will be loyal to him upon your Hand your hands that he would show his strength in their life Jesus I want to know you. Oh, we want to know you lord. I want to know we want to love you I want to know Just talk to the lord say lord, I want to be a david I want to be a person after your heart. Converted at 15 after hearing Dallas Cowboys quarterback Roger Staubach at a 1970 Fellowship of Christian Athletes conference, he pastored several St. Louis churches before founding Kansas City Fellowship in 1982, later Metro Christian Fellowship.
