Married to Eileen Cassells in 1956, they had five children, including MP Ian Jr. His uncompromising Calvinism, inspired by Spurgeon, shaped evangelical fundamentalism, though his political rhetoric sparked controversy. Paisley’s call, “Stand for Christ where Christ stands,” defined his ministry. Despite later moderating, his legacy blends fervent faith with divisive politics, influencing Ulster’s religious and political landscape.

Sermon Summary
In this sermon, the preacher emphasizes the assurance of salvation for those who follow Christ. He uses the imagery of a ship in a storm to illustrate that all who obey Christ's command will safely reach their destination in heaven. The preacher also highlights the importance of trusting in the Lord and resting on His promises during difficult times. He concludes by emphasizing the victory that believers will experience when they all gather in heaven and the assurance that God's seed, His chosen people, will be saved.
Sermon Transcription
If you open your Bible at this 53rd chapter of Isaiah, you will find in verse 10 of the chapter, you will find these words, He shall see His seat. He shall see His seat. After the Almighty God in Noah's day had scrubbed this old world that was polluted clean with the mighty deluge that He sent, He did something else. At the end of the flood, He gave to Noah a great promise, a promise of the certainty of the sea time. And then He put a signal in the sky that Noah would not forget. The rainbow confirming that God would keep His word and that never again this world would be purged and drowned in water as it was in the great deluge of Noah's day. It was sealed with this beautiful rainbow in the sky and sealed by the word of God from the lips of God Himself. Now this word seed is a very interesting word. It occurs over and over again in the Bible. God takes the natural things of this world to illustrate the supernatural. God takes the common things of the world, the common place things of the world to teach about the uncommon things of the world to come. God uses the seasons to illustrate the gospel of His mighty grace. Now God has an offspring. God has a seat on this earth. The Lord Jesus Christ described the greatest act He was to perform in this world, His atoning death. He illustrated it in this language, that except the corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone. But if it die, it beareth much fruit. So the great truth of the atoning death of Christ was illustrated from His own lips, reminding man and woman of the importance of the seat. This promise is signed, sealed and delivered. And the Bible tells me here that without doubt God in Christ shall see His seat. The gospel of free and sovereign grace carries with it the truth of five great acts which Christ has accomplished for His people, His seat, the elect of God. The first one is this, that Christ shall see all His seat chosen and brought together. This is the great mystery of God's foreordination and God's election. The seat was given to Christ by the Father. In eternity God gave a people to Christ and Christ received that people and they were chosen in Him before the foundation of the world. And after the world was created and God revealed His gospel, what happened? That seat that was chosen in eternity, one by one, were brought into the family of God, sealed by the grace of God. God searched them out. Some were in one continent and some in another. Some were poor and some were rich. Some were illiterate and some were scholars. Some were black and some were white or other colors. But God saved them all and brought them all so far into His kingdom. And before the gospel day closes, all that God gave to Christ will be in every one of them. Not one missing. He is going to see His seat. God has no intention of leaving all mankind to perish. God is a God of grace, a God of love and God has given to His Son a people for His name. And the Son took those people and He went to Calvary to die for those people. And all that He promised His Father He would do, He has done. And those people, one by one, are coming to Christ. They came in the early days of creation. They came in the days of the giving of the law. They came in the days of the great kings of Israel. They came in the day of the mighty prophets of Israel. They came in the day when the tribes were carried away into Babylon because of their disobedience and resistance of God's truth. They were gathered in. When Jesus Christ came to this earth, there was a great gathering. A gathering first of all through the ministry of His forerunner, John the Baptist. And then through His own ministry, the multitudes turned to listen to the words of eternal truth. Then came the darkness of the cross. Then came the agony of Christ and the giving of Himself for the sins of His people. And then came the victory of the resurrection. And then came the upper room and the outpouring of the Spirit of God at Pentecost. And then the gospel went out through all the world. And the great multitude, which no man can number, are already in heaven. And thank God, millions more will be on the way. You know, the devil is not going to get the better of God. I heard a preacher, a foolish preacher, and he said there will be more people in hell than in heaven. Not so. Because I never read in my Bible that there will be a great multitude which no man can number in hell. But I read there will be a great number that no man can count in the glory land. And the devil is not going to get the better of the Lord Jesus. It says in all things, he shall have the preeminence. And even in the numbers written, he will have the preeminence. Praise His holy name. There was an old preacher called John Kent. He wrote some great hymns. And in one of them he says, Indulgent God, how kind that all thy ways to me, whose dark benighted mind was enmity with thee, yet now subdued by sovereign grace, my spirit longs for thine embrace. How precious are thy thoughts that o'er my bosom roll, they swell beyond my thoughts and captivate my soul. How great they are some, how high they rise, can there be no beneath the skies. Preserved in Jesus, when my feet meet his to hell. And there I would have gone, but thou hast done all things well. Thy love was great, thy mercy free, that from hell's pit delivered me. Before thy hands had made the sun to rule the day, or earth's foundations laid, or fashioned Adam's clay, what thoughts of peace and mercy flowed in thy dear bosom, O my God. A monument of grace, a sinner saved by blood, the streams of love I trace up to the fountain God. And in his sacred bosom see eternal thoughts of love for me. I want to say first of all that Christ shall see all his seed chosen and brought together. Not one will be missing on the great day when he makes up his jewel. Will you be among that number? The number of the redeemed in the land that is fairer than day. But secondly, Christ shall see all his seed born and brought in. God's children are the children of God's promise. And God never makes a promise that he breaks. His promise is whole, hallelujah. His promise will never grow old or will never be broken. I came to Christ on that text, him that cometh unto me, I will in no wise cast out. And it was good for me on the 29th day of May 1932. And it's just as good and as fresh and as blessed tonight as it was then. If you come to Christ, he will save you, hallelujah. He will save you now. Christ is going to see all his seed born and brought in. And down through the years, sometimes in history, it was only a little dribble. Very few came to Christ. Very few turned their hearts to God. Very few were redeemed. And then in other times in history, the river of blessing ran in full speed. And with great speed, thousands and tens of thousands were converted by the power of the Spirit of God. In fact, we read in the Psalms that one generation shall praise the works of God to another and shall declare his mighty acts. And what mighty acts God has done in bringing his people to Christ and bringing them into the fold and family of God. Yes, Christ shall see all his seed born and brought in. But thirdly, Christ will see all his seed schooled and brought up. When Christ saves a man or a woman, he puts them into his school and he teaches them. Blessed is the person that is taught of the Holy Spirit. The things that I have been taught by men, many of them I have found were untrue and I had to reject them. But anything God has taught me in Christ, I never need to reject because it is his own eternal and unchanging truth. And Christ shall see all his seed schooled and brought up. Brought up in the things of God. Brought up in the glorious doctrines of saving sovereign grace. Controlled by Christ. Sitting in the classroom of the Lord. Learning the true ways of God and walking in the pathways of righteousness. Dear sinner friend, you do not know what you are missing when you are not walking in the light of God. Oh, how great a thing it is to be in the school of Christ. If you turn over with me to Matthew's gospel, chapter 11, you will find there in that gospel these words. Matthew 11, verse 28. Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me. Take your place in the classroom. I am the master of the class. I am meek and lowly, and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light. Oh, my friend, every child of God is not only brought together in Christ, but chosen in Him from before the foundation of the world. And Christ will see all his seed chosen and brought together. But he will also see them born and brought in. But he will also see them schooled and brought up. What a blessing to be brought up in the truths of the gospel. I do not understand how men and women can live without Jesus Christ. I do not understand how they can go through the darkness of bereavement and discouragement with no one to lean upon. My thank God I have someone to lean upon. Leaning on the everlasting arms, I have perfect peace with my Lord so near. Leaning on the everlasting arms. Christ not only brings all of those chosen by his Father into the fold, but he looks after the seed, and they are born and brought in. But they are also schooled and brought up. Christ is rich to his people. Even in this wilderness and this journey down here below, his promise is his charter of liberty. His compassion faileth not. You can read the story of all the saints, and you will be amazed at the work of Christ. He is the joy giver. He is the power enabler. He can answer every prayer. He can honor every one of his promises. He can make the rough places smooth and the crooked places straight. He is the healer of every pain, and the everlasting peacemaker in every day of trouble. His kingdom ruleth over all. Old Joseph Irons, a great preacher of a past generation, wrote a hymn, It goes like this, what wonders in my Savior meet. His head, his hands, his side, his feet present to my astonished view eternal glories ever new. Poor and despised, yet rich and loved. Humble to death, his throne unmoved. A servant and a sovereign lord. Reviled and murdered, yet adored. Pardon and life are his to give. He died that all his church might live. Became a curse, yet deems to bless. He is the Lord, our righteousness. He had not where to lay his head, although the worlds were by him made. He hungered, though he thousands fed. Sinless, and yet for sin he bled. The Father's co-eternal Son. The friend of sinners, though undone. The portion all believers crave. He's the man to suffer, but he's a God to see. What a wonderful Savior is Jesus, my Jesus. What a wonderful Savior is Jesus, my friend. He is a one who not only will see his people chosen and brought together. He will not only see them born and brought in. He will not only see them schooled and brought up. But, thank God, he will see them supported and brought through. Christ never leaves his children. God, who is rich to his people, is always rich to them. He never leaves us. He never forsakes us. He never lets go our hand. He's pledged to be with us through life's journey. He's pledged to carry us across the dark sea of death. He's pledged to bring us home to the Father's house. That brings me to my last point. Christ will see all his seed glorified and brought home. Every child of God will make it to heaven. There will not be one lost. The weakest lamb to the strongest ram in the flock will all get to heaven. Every one of them. There's going to be no gaps in God's family when they all get home. None of them will perish. None of them will be lost. All the sons of God are going to be manifested. The day of the bringing of the children home will be a day of manifestation. What a day when we meet the loved ones in the city four square. Christ is not coming with some of the sins. My Bible says He's coming with all of the sins. Not one missing. They're all there. Home at last. Home where? In the house not made with hands. Eternal in the heavens. Home in the city of God. The new Jerusalem. Home in the Father's house of many mansions. Home to the cry of the Savior. Here am I, Father, and the children has given me. Home to the Father's welcome. Home to the music of the blessed eternity. None that embark at Christ's command. For heaven can e'er be lost. All seeth escape to Canaan's land. However tempest tossed. Though winds may blow and storms may rise. And rocks and sands appear. The Savior to His people flies. And bids them not to fear. Though seeming on destruction's brink. While the dread tempests roar. However tossed they shall not sink. But safely reach the shore. Though neither sun nor stars appear. For many days in sight. Trust in the Lord. Be of good cheer. And He shall guide you right. Then let the saints in God confide. And on His promise rest. They shall the storms of life outright. And be forever blessed. When we all get to heaven. What a day of rejoicing that will be. When we all see Jesus. We'll sing the victory. Yes, my friend. He will see His seed. All of them. Chosen and brought together. He shall see all His seed born. And brought in. He shall see all His seed. Stooled and brought up. He shall see all His seed. Supported. And brought through. For He shall see them all. Glorified. And brought home. Now where do you stand? Are you a member of His family? Are you one of the seed of God? Are you a child of the Savior? But if not. Thank God you can be tonight. Because this gospel is as free as free can be. Whosoever. That means you. Me. Or anyone else. Shall call. On the name of the Lord. Shall. Be. Saved. I was preaching. Recently. In the city of Bristol. On a Saturday afternoon. At half past two. Did you ever hear of people. Having a service at half past two. On a Saturday afternoon. I said to the man. I said there will only be Mr. and Mrs. Wood. And Timothy Timber in this service. There will be no one to fill the seats. But the large church. Was well filled. Wasn't packed but was well filled. And at the end of the service. I was sitting in the vestry. And I said if anybody wanted to talk to me. I'd be glad to do it. And a fan came in. And he said I just wanted to tell you Mr. Paisley. That years and years ago. You came to our town. And I heard you preach. And I got saved. And I said to myself. I see Paisley's back in Bristol. I think I will travel there. Just to tell him. That I was saved. Under his ministry. And that must be twenty years ago. Well I said it's lasting. Oh he said it's getting better every day. God really saved. And I'll tell you something more. God really satisfies. You can hunt. The pleasure palaces of the world. You can go to every. School that the devil provides. To give pleasure. And you'll not get any satisfaction. But come to Christ. And he'll satisfy the deepest longings of your soul. He'll give you peace. That it passeth all understanding. He'll give you joy. That's better felt than tilt. He'll give you. Complete forgiveness. He'll give you the joy of knowing. That when you die. You'll not go to hell. But you'll go to heaven. And as the old colored preacher said. Even if I never make heaven. I'm having a heavenly time. Travelling there. And I tell you. You can have a heavenly time. Travelling to heaven. But God will bring you safely. To his house. I trust tonight. That no one will leave this meeting. Outside of Christ. Call upon. Put your trust in him. Say Lord save me I perish. And just as he reached out his hand. To the drowning Peter. And pulled him into the ship. He'll pull you into the ship of the gospel. And he'll sail you safely. To your desired place in heaven above. What a wonderful thing it is. To have Christ in our heart. The hope of glory. You can have it tonight. Call upon him. Call upon him now. He will save you. Hallelujah. He will save you now. Let's bow our heads. Father we thank thee tonight. For thy word. Thy word is truth. And we thank thee for the blessedness. Of your word. There's nothing like the old, old story. Grace is free. Grace is free. We pray that those that are not saved in this meeting. Will trust in the Lord tonight. Call out to him. May there go up from this building tonight. Cries from those that are lost. Saying, Lord save me. I perish. Thank God you'll save them from perishing. In the slough of their sin. You'll save them from perishing in the fires of hell. You'll bring them to the place of cleansing. Through the blood of the lamb. And that there be some backside or golden heart. Because they've wandered and by path meadow in the world. We pray that they may return unto the Lord. And he will have mercy upon them. And to our God for he will abundantly pardon. And we pray that you bless your people. And keep us Lord walking with thee. Talking with thee. Obeying thee. Preaching thy word. Witnessing to thy truth. And we pray that we may see the great revival that our little province needs. O come and revive us again. That all thy people may rejoice in thee. Do it for Jesus' sake. And everybody say it. Amen.
