Reinhard Bonnke

Reinhard Walter Bonnke (1940–2019). Born on April 19, 1940, in Königsberg, East Prussia (now Kaliningrad, Russia), to Hermann, a pastor, and Meta Bonnke, Reinhard Bonnke was a German-American Pentecostal evangelist renowned for his massive African crusades. The youngest of five, he fled with his family to Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, in 1945 as refugees. Converted at nine during a prayer meeting, he felt called to Africa at 10 after a divine vision. He studied at The Bible College of Wales in Swansea (1959–1961), ordained by the German Pentecostal Church. In 1967, he and his wife, Anni Sülzle, married since 1964, moved to Lesotho as missionaries. Founding Christ for All Nations (CfaN) in 1974, Bonnke’s open-air crusades, marked by reported healings and salvations, drew millions, notably 1.6 million in Lagos, Nigeria, in 2000. By 2017, CfaN recorded 79 million decisions for Christ. He authored over 40 books, including Evangelism by Fire (1989) and Living a Life of Fire (2009). Father to Kai-Uwe, Gabriele, and Susanne, he died on December 7, 2019, in Orlando, Florida, saying, “Africa shall be saved!”
